Hellraiser is actually my first, for being one of the biggest misunderstood horror movies of the 80s.
Now you'd never call Erwin a "Wussy"
Nor label his working day "cushy"
But you might have to question
              His endless obsession
              With superpositional pussy.

I didn't misunderstand it, but there is a vocal contingent of people who hated the later Hellraiser movies because "Pinhead" was only in them for a few minutes....LOL. Granted, the later Hellraiser movies weren't great, but there problem wasn't the lack of a character who played just as small a part in the originals he did in those films. It was that 5, 6, and 7 were adapted from non-Hellraiser stories and had very little to do with the themes of the first movies.

It was all downhill for the series after the second movie.

                      i loved the first 2

everything else afterwards was just garbage imo

same with saw for that matter

first 3 were great but i refuse to see the 4 other ones that came after it

I really like the first Hellraiser film. I even like the 2nd. From 3 onward though they start with garbage and get progressively worse. Seeing the franchise wither on the vine of straight to DVD movies makes a mercy killing too little too late.

The thing is, when discussing horror movies with my friends, I've always maintained that above any other horror movie, the first Hellraiser would benefit from a well funded remake. Remakes more often than not turn out badly, but this is a case where it could be justified. There is a LOT of imagination in this movie that is restricted by the time it was made and the money they spent on it. A movie about a mongoloid killing camp counselors isn't going to change a change enormously with more money and technological advances, but cenobites bring pleasure and pain from hell to Earth sure can.

The saw movies are pure torture porn but you gotta hand it to them with their ability to weave the story thru seven movies and fill in a little bit of backstory of jigsaw in everyone until it all comes full circle with very few of any reasons.

The Hitchiker was great BTW. I still holds up. Never bothered with the remake.

well a hellraiser remake is being written as we speak

i just think the horror genre is dead honestly

maybe its just me but i think its pretty damn hard to try to recapture something that was basicly original

take nightmare on elm street for example

imo i believe they showed freddy way to much because in the original he was more like a shadowy type of killer

Fuck the naysayers...I LOVE the Saw series. The first 6 were great and I'll defend them until the end of time. The 7th one was fucking horrible, but with a great last reel and wrap up to the series. I own the special editions of all of them, and am still hoping for a nice boxset with more special features to buy.
