"Gorilla" warfare. (See what I did there?) They raid weapons caches and interrupt supply lines, while seamlessly navigating wilderness and some urban settings in ways we can't even wrap our heads around......all the while luring us in with our over confidence and underestimation. Superior armies are great to have, but not required for victory against a determined enemy. Lest we forget Vietnam....

The thing that always got me was the old TV series.
The reason the apes evolved or gained prominence was that all dogs and cats were destroyed in a plague. Hence, Apes were first domesticated as pets. but! after a while humans realized apes could be made to do more than just be companions. they could be taught to SERVE. and were eventually made into slaves.
      The problem?
In the very first episode an ape boy is urging his pet. to hunt a human down. the pet is none other than A DOG!!!!

      lol just a little nitpic!

Wich the US kinda won on military terms. The Tet Ofensive was what hapened when the vietcong tried to take on the US army head on, and they got their asses kicked for their efforts.

The apes work in conjunction with Skynet to take down humans.

"Head on" a superior military force has the upper hand. But Guerrilla Warfare is about creating a battle of attrition and minimizing the larger war machine to the point of breaking.

You gotta get this idea that sheer might is all it takes, out of your head.

If superior force is all it took, then the war in Afghanistan would of been over when the Russians were the ones fighting it. We wouldn't have had to run from Vietnam with our tails between our legs even after we initiated a draft.

All it takes is one ruptured hose, one slipping belt or one imbalanced cog to render a machine useless. The War Machine is no different.

Yep. That's how the Irish brought one of the greatest empires in the world to the bargaining table.
Heck, it's how we did it.

Regardless, guerrila movements usualy have bigger power backing them with weapons, support and logistical training. The apes in this case have none. A guerrilla movement needs help to survive, usually in the form of support from a bigger nation.

They could scavenge weapons, but it would still not be enough. With no external backing any guerrila movement is doomed to fail, mostly because of atritition and because the other side has more guns and men.

But I read the spoilers for the movie and the way the apes win makes sense and itīs not stupid.

But...But....my shield has a +12 monkey reverberator so the Apes couldn't possibly win.

When the Apes or Zombies rise up, keep that overconfidence. While you're being enslaved or eaten, I'll make my get away and fight smart.

Haven't read too much of The Walking Dead, have you?

In regards to the trailer, I think this looks really good. My second favorite Planet of the Apes movie was the fourth one, which seems to be the spiritual basis for this movie. Looks good.

I just got back from seeing the 1st showing with the wife and kids. I enjoyed this movie a LOT more than I thought I would. I need time to digest it, but I think it's going right up there with Cowboys And Aliens as one of the best movies I saw this year. In fact, I've seen a lot more movies in the theater this year than normal, and Apes is right at the top of the list.

I saw a recent review of the movie that gave it a B-. I 'll say most of the reviewer's critiques were fairly made, but he didn't get across how entertaining the film is overall. Or, at least it was for all of us. My son is running around our vacation home right now on all fours pretending to be Caesar uniting all apekind! This is the shit I live for as a movie fan!

It doesn't have the social commentary that the first one had, but maybe it would have come across as pandering if it did. Also, the twist ending at the end of the original will never be outdone, so they are better off not trying that. I will say that everything in this movie fits together pretty well and sets up nicely for a sequel. The apes "rise" plays out well and is not overdone; plenty of material left for future movies. And there is a plausable reason built into the movie why apes could take over the world.

There is a mid credits scene, but no after the credits, so you don't have to stick around to the bitter end.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was definately a enjoyable movie and I agree that it's probably one of the better made movies I've seen so far this year as well. The idea that the Apes will Rise so to speak does make some sense by the climax, and that notion is methodically set up as the film went on. Caesar's arc, was achieved very well and overall I can't say I have any complaints about the film in general. Looking forward to see where this may go ....
