Yo.

that's cuz the last 2 grew up with it on video/dvd/cable/on-demand, and sci-fi features themselves are more plentiful; its not an event for them since its always been around from their perspective...... :/

Probably a big reason why the old films were so beloved were the toys, which just aren't very inspiring these days.

You mean you aren't inspired by all those Rose tico pegwarmers still out there?

I'm mostly not inspired by the prices these days. When I was a young kid, I got quite a few figs just by saving up my allowance, but even basic figs these days seem much more expensive than would be accounted for by inflation.

I had to look up who that was, but then again, I haven't seen any of the post-Lucas movies more than once.

This is no surprise. It all comes down to content. The Force Awakens was a popular movie that people liked, so the merchandise sold. Disney has been crapping the bed with every move they have made after that. Solo and Rogue One are extraneous films that should never have been made, which dilute the brand. The Rebels show sucked, and The Last Jedi was offensively bad, and took the Sequel trilogy down every single turn it should not have gone.

The content is terrible, so why would people want to go to a Star Wars theme park or buy Star Wars toys? It's amazingly foolish that Disney is planning an Obi-Wan show in this climate. They're launching amusement parks and spin-off shows when the core franchise is in shambles and people aren't interested in it. It baffles me. What do they expect? I could have told them that amusement park was a bad idea. Make sure people actually like the current product before you put something like that out, and people hate Star Wars more than ever. A lot of these kids are going to be influenced by their parents, and if their parents are Star Wars fans, they probably hate the current movies, and won't want to take their kid to a Disney Star Wars amusement park. The kid probably isn't interested in the current movies because they're bad, so NO ONE wants to go or buy toys.

I still buy SW toys occasionally. But I always wait for them to go down 75% off at Walmart and Target. and you don't have to wait long

I did watch TFA one more time in anticipation of TLJ (survey says: still a bland ANH remake). I saw TLJ pop into Netflix a while back and started to watch it a second time... but I just couldn't make it past the "your momma" jokes in the beginning.

I'm going to watch the third movie for completion's sake (when it hits Netflix), but then I think I'll drop off SW fandom all together. I just keep becoming more and more of a purist when it comes to this franchise that should've been a trilogy.

I loved Rogue One.

Solo on the other hand, just felt like a movie. Nothing special about it.

Going with...

Palpatine created Anakin via immaculate conception, now Palpatine created Rey via immaculate conception (thus maintaining Rian Johnson's "your parents are nobodies" thing with JJ has kind of said he'd do) to... fulfill some purpose. Maybe even carry his essence.

Still thinking "Skywalker" may be the name of what will replace the Jedi Order.

No, not sure. But boy that would be a nasty bit of bait and switch.

Yo.

as interesting as some of that was, I'm _still_ distressed in that I'm (way, way, WAAYYYYYYYY) more enthusiastic for The Mandalorian than this, a finale (of sorts) to a storyline Ive been following for more than 30yrs...... :/

Right? I'll definitely give IX a shot but... it's got a very steep, uphill battle. "The Last Jedi" simultaneously killed my interest in the core series at the same time as leaving the fandom with nothing else to look forward to.

Same here. TLJ was not only a bad Star Wars movie, but it left me with no feeling of wanting to see what happens next. Say what you want about TFA, but it ended with so much possibility for episode VIII. There were SO many questions and that 2 years between movies was a lot of fun speculating where the trilogy was going.

When TLJ ended it was with a depressing thud that made it feel like the end of a duoligy and not a trilogy. I feel like now they have forced themselves into building excitement for what is really a stand alone film, and it's hard to give a crap right now.

That trailer. Is there a contest at Disney for who can make the dumbest looking lightsaber?

It looks like a movie. That's pretty much all I can say. I hope Abrams can stick the landing on this one, but I don't expect to care much for this finale... and that's sad given how much I loved Episode III. 14 years later, and I've next to no hype for Star Wars.

Watched the premier trailer for The Mandalorian yesterday, and while it definitely looks good, it's also exclusive to Disney+, which I will not get.

So I'll just content myself with Star Wars comics instead.
