I wonder if any DCP group has scanned them? If that's the case, download them (AFTER you've bought the original copies!) and color those. No sense damaging your own books. The newsprint wouldn't take art markers very well, and fuck crayon.

Not gonna buy either the showcases or the chronicles. I have the archives.

Too bad they are unlikely to release any more Archives. I've got the Archives, too, but I despair of them ever completing them even up to the logical GL/GA cutoff point, much less beyond.

I admit, I have no desire to buy GL in B&W, but I DID check the Showcases out of the library, so I could at least READ the issues my collection does not contain. But if the Chronicles ever catch up to where the Archives are, with no further Archives being released, I'll grit my teeth and switch formats so I can have all the issues in my collection.

(Though I seem to recall that they were going to start releasing massive hardcover tomes that contained the equivalent of three Archives worth. If I have to switch formats, I'd rather switch to that, especially if it breaks down so there isn't a partial overlap with Archives I already own.)

That's the thing! That's as far as I want them to go. I mean, the Justice League Batman and Green Lantern all have clear-cut Silver to Bronze age transitions
JLA: The Team kicks Snapper Carr off and ditches the Secret Sanctuary for the Satellite
Green Lantern: GL meets Green Arrow and starts the Hard Traveling Heroes arc.
Batman: Dick/Robin goes off to College Bruce and Alfred close up shop at Wayne Manor and Move to the Penthouse apt.

I bought Vol. 1 & 2 for the purpose of having it as a collection. Never made it through reading one Volume in its entirety.
