Well I enjoy watching GL more than CA:TFA (though I've only seen the latter once) but I fully admit that is due to my fandom. I just get excited any time GL is portrayed on screen and lower my expectations (the opposite of a lot of people here). If they did GL 7 I'd be there first night and buy the DVD first day even if they were doing it with stick figures and a green filter on a flash light. I enjoyed CA:TFA and thought it a good comic movie but I'm not in a rush to buy it or see it again. And as I said on the other thread, in their rush to elevate it over GL, some people here seem to be considering CA too high. It's not some Oscar-worthy, AFI film. It's fun and pretty good but it's not like it's such a classy, perfect film that anyone who doesn't enjoy it is an idiot.

Yeah, people are definately rating CA far too high, and GL a bit too low.

Green Lantern is rated that low for a reason, it was an absolute embarrassing piece of trash.

Still everyone I've personally spoken to that wasn't really familiar with the character liked it and some a lot. All of the bad mouthing I've heard has come from GL fans and critics. And the GL fans are by far more critical. I've seen the movie with or lent it to 8 people. The only one who didn't like it was my comic store manager. Of the others, two people said they loved it and one told me they were thinking of reading the comics now.

I can agree with this. The people I have been hearing most vocally against it are A) GL fans B) Movie critics and C)The 1 percenters of Marvel fans (1 percenters being the 1% of a fanbase that is obnoxious, overly vocal, die hard fans. You see them in sports, video games, etc.) Everyone else that I have talked to thought it was a good, not great, but a good entertaining movie. Some even said that although it was not a great movie, it was a great set up to a very promising sequel. The average movie goer does not place it in the same category as Wolverine Origins, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, or Batman and Robin. Its just one of those movies that people love to hop on the hate train.

After having watched it since my initial posts I have to re-iterate that I do enjoy it (particularly the extended cut) Is it the geatest comic book/super hero movie of all time? No. There have been many that were much better but on the flip-side i have to honestly say there have been many that were far worse (Has anyone besides me seen Vampirella with Talisa Soto, Roger Daltrey and Brian Bloom?)

So the argument in favor of Green Lantern is that people who don't give a shit about the property or film in general have somewhat positive things to say about a movie they never have to see or think about again?

Awesome.

You really got us on that one.

I dragged 6 friends out to see it on opening night and we all hated it. I still get shit from some of them about it.

Well, I don't know where you get "or film in general." Not being a professional critic doesn't equate with "not giving a $@%# about film." In fact the one person who told me they liked it a lot is a big Hitchcock fan (FYI: Hitchcock is usually considered highly among people who know about film ). My only point is that GL fans are harsher on it than non-fans. I happen to enjoy it because (as I stated) I set a lower standard for GL. But I think an objective standard would place it at about average for sci-fi, comic, or action flicks. There are certainly a lot of movies that should rank below it.

I agree with this. I thought GL was average and I'd give it a C or C+ grade. It was good for what it was (a by the book, cliched, and generic superhero movie) but it didn't bring anything new to the genre. I can still watch and be entertained by it, but the film was a dissapointment and could've been a whole lot better. Hopefully GL gets a second chance on the big screen in the near future, whether it's a reboot or a sequel. I think we GL fans deserved better than what we got in 2011. I'm glad to see that there are some here that liked the movie because despite my disspointment I liked it too.
