Love that they are doing a trilogy of new characters in a new story. It's like Lucasfilm was actually listening to fans.

If you guys are typical of the fadom, I really am far from it these days. I saw that news and my first thought was "now, everyone is going to get Star Wars fatigue." Growing up, SW was a very rare and special thing. Now, it feels to me like it's just another regular thing between the summer releases of Fast and Furious and Marvel movies or sitting between Walking Dead and whatever else is popular on TV now. I do know some others who feel like that though---not necessarily as anti-sequel as me, but who are getting to feel "meh" about SW.

[This is not meant to continue my sequel rant, but just a comment on franchise proliferation. I frankly feel the same about comic book movies in general.]

As long as they stay top quality it will remain a special thing for me that I will not tire of. I love that they come out by my birthday in the winter now. It kind of makes up for nearly 2 decades of practically zero Star Wars news and products coming out during the late 80's and early 90's.

I imagine fatigue will set in soon enough and Disney will have to step back and develop a way to pace themselves going forward. But for right now they are just laying track in front of the train as fast as they can.

I'm actually surprised Disney isn't churning out MORE media. One show at a time (Rebels will end this season before the live action show starts). One movie a year (which will change). I'm kind of hoping Solo bombs to teach Disney a lesson. I want Star Wars, but that is not the kind of project I want them to be making.

BTW: a friend was asking me this, but of course I had no idea because I've only read maybe 10 SW books.

Anyway, this friend heard of and is trying to track down a Star Wars book where a ship crash lands on a planet that doesn't know anything about the Force or Jedi and the inhabitants learn the Force from the ship's computer. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Yeah, I'm wondering if it was a short story or even fanfic. It sounds odd for an EU book.

The Captain Phasma novel featured a society totally cut off from the rest of the universe but they learn about the bigger picture from a stranded General Hux who crashes into their planet, not from the ship computer.

Solo's background has been explored before, in novels/comics. I know I read the Han Solo and Lando Calrissian trilogies years ago (Han's was good, Lando wasn't bad but I didn't like it as much myself). Dunno about the comics very much, but his early days had to have been explored because he's a popular character in a popular franchise.

The film is just a live-action version of what's already been done, really. Basically a "pick your poison" deal for SW fans.

I don't think anything but the new Marvel comic titled "Solo" are canon for Han anymore for SW. I remember reading that they were considering having him cameo in Episode 3 on the Wookie world but that idea was canned. The concept art is pretty interesting though, makes him look like an orphan beggar or something.

I didn't necessarily mean the old character explorations were still canon, just that the exploration had happened before in general. I know that Disney scrapped all Expanded Universe stuff with barely any exceptions.
