So what did everyone think? As someone who was disappointed by Earth 2 and very disappointed by Earth 2: World's End I went into this with extremely low expectations and was very surprised by what I found.

Obviously this is NOT going to be a Justice Society of America book, so if that's what you wanted you'll be disappointed but overall I think there are a lot of potentially fun concepts introduced here:
  • Karen vs. Helena
  • The red sun and it's effects on Karen
  • Jimmy Olsen as this world's Mr. Miracle, Doctor Impossible
  • What might end up being a more traditional Ollie.

The only complaint I had was Dick Grayson as Batman since I don't believe he has any of the appropriate training but that wasn't enough to keep me from being intrigued.

Oh and I really liked the art too.

It's been a year after Convergence per the preview, so that's enough time for Dick to be trained I think

If all he did was train for a year straight then maybe but they were also settling a planet and trying to rebuild their society during that time so I call shenanigans.

Dick Grayson is gonna be Batman in this book? Ugh....he was the worst part of World's End. Did something happen to Thomas Wayne in Convergence?

Earth 2 started with the Trinity dying when Darkseid invaded (that's the main departure from the DCNu). So, issue 1 they had already used them up.

Great way to pace things and think long term.

It reminds me of this goofy thing about team books like JLA and Avengers. Every writer wants to be the guy to do a story where the headquarters gets destroyed, the team breaks up, and reforms from the ashes with new members. All well and good, but when you look back and see the team has gone through 10 different headquarters in 5 years of in story comics time, it's just silly. Not to mention umpteen million members coming and going.

Three Batmans on essentially a brand new sandbox is pretty much par for the course. It's so goofy my inner fanboy can't even be bothered to be mad anymore.

Maybe, but counting Bruce in Earth 2 isn't really fair. The whole point of the series was that the Trinity was dead and new heroes needed to rise up. Counting Bruce would be like counting him for Batman Beyond. He was never meant to be anything but a prologue leading into the main characters.

Yea, Earth-2 Bruce Wayne was really more of a plot point than an actual character.

Well, that's it. If you have no stories to tell, you wreck the status quo in an established property and then rebuild it. If it's a marginal property where you do that, nobody gives a shit.

So we're 2 issues into the Abnett run now and there's been a definite improvement in the book. Unlike under Wilson where everything felt a bit disjointed as we jumped from character to character with each issue Abnett is focusing on telling a more traditional story and it's working out great in comparison. Unfortunately I expect this book to cancelled and/or Abnett to be gone come Rebirth but oh well.

Hopefully Jorge Jimenez ends up on a book come June because the man can still draw:
