Default This is the most important story of our time

Karl Marx got almost everything else wrong, especially in the solutions he proposed. But he got this part right: “The history of all hitherto existing human society is the history of class struggles.”

Read the comments under this story. People are catching on to the fact that the wealthiest have been stealthily waging class warfare against them for a long time. And now they're starting to fight back.

I've been saying for years that the government's bragging about "the low unemployment rate," "the strengthening and firming economy" and "the big wage increases that are coming along any minute now" was bullshit. And so it was.

Here's what's happening. When millions of people lose full-time jobs that have health care and other benefits, and have to replace them with part-time jobs that have no benefits, the government calls that a "recovery" and proclaims that things are just peachy again. But they're not!

The government claims that if you were making $65K with benefits, but now you're making $20K with no benefits, you're just as well off as you were before. Because, hey, you're employed.

Paul Campos makes an excellent point:

“If you have three billion dollars, then you can buy almost anything without even bothering to consider what it costs, since what it costs is, to you, practically indistinguishable from ‘nothing.’ Given that everything is for you already basically free, why would you even care if your tax bill goes up? Especially given that you live in a society in which, despite what is by a historical standards an almost inconceivable amount of total social wealth, lots of people still have to worry about getting enough to eat, not freezing to death in the next polar vortex, etc?”

Good for New York. Giving the world's richest man $3 billion in tax cuts to build an HQ in your city is ludicrous.
