Byron Mallott, the Alaska Native leader who served as lieutenant governor under former Gov. Bill Walker, has died unexpectedly at age 77.

Walker confirmed Mallott’s death in a phone interview Friday, saying he’d been in touch with Mallott’s family. The Anchorage Daily News reported that Mallott suffered a heart attack in Juneau late Thursday before being flown to Anchorage.

^I wish I had a record of his. It's the kind of thing that would fit my collection, but isn't in it yet. R.I.P.

I guess I need to rewatch Black Dynamite.

Because Anaconda Malt Liquor, the ONLY malt liquor approved by the US Federal Government, gives you Little Richard.

The music industry is suffering from another significant loss as sources close to Betty Wright’s family have confirmed her passing. She was 66.

Known for R&B classics such as “Tonight Is the Night” and “No Pain, (No Gain),” Wright’s ubiquitous 1972 single “Clean Up Woman” would be immortalized in hip hop soul history when it was sampled for the remix of Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love.”

Little Richard and Chuck Berry were two of the founders of rock music, along with Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Elvis and a few others. It's notable that LR and Berry were black, given that black artists have been largely uninvolved in rock music since then, except for a few outliers like Jimi Hendrix.

I posted his cover of Johnny Cash's song Get Rhythm in the Videos forum a while back. It's great.

^I was just thinking about how Little Richard outlived almost that whole generation of founding rockers (some by a lot).

Marty Pasko, who wrote various Batman The Animated Series episodes and co-wrote Mask of the Phantasm, not to mention dozens and dozens of comic books for DC, passed away yesterday.

Marty Pasko? Aww, that sucks. He wrote an underappreciated run of Swamp Thing. The one that launched volume 2 after the movie and his was followed by Alan Moore's run.

Astrid was very influential on boosting the Beatles in Germany (which in turn led to their becoming a full touring band in England), defining their early (teddy) look, and turning them on to what became the mod scene. R.I.P.

RIP to Mr. Willard. I thought he was hilarious in those Christopher Guest movies. Such a natural gifted comedic performer.

Lynn Shelton, a leading voice of the new American independent cinema movement who directed the intimate darlings Humpday, Your Sister's Sister and My Effortless Brilliance, has died. She was 54.

Shelton died Friday in Los Angeles as a result of a previously unidentified blood disorder, her longtime publicist, Adam Kersh, announced.

This is even more inexplicable then Fred Willard. She was only 54, and it was out of nowhere. What a great indie filmmaker, Your Sister's Sister is fantastic. RIP!!!
