Default Question about Hal's uniform.

What is up with the graphic design of the GL symbol floating around Hall when he flies. I don't mean to seem dense but is there a reason for that? What does having it float around him signify? Is it just a design tool to show that he is in motion? I really don't care for it. It makes him seem "impish", like there is GL confetti floating off him. Just curious if there is some reason I am not thinking of for this to exist. Thanks for humoring my ignorance.

Eric

Also, am I the only one who prefers the old singlet look to his uniform. I think it was stronger visually.

i don't think it really signifies anything...

it's just sort of a flashy effect like Guy's ring sparking power... or the way that when John flies he has a 'architecture' style 'drawing' surrounding him...

it's only since rebirth these things have been popping up, so i guess it's just a new style of art work.

Ethan Van Sciver started this all in Rebirth and onward. When the GL's (mostly Hal) are doing shit, their emblem floats and glows and stuff. Think its more artistic license than the norm. I like it IMHO

I like it, too. It kind of extrends out of the energy shield that hugs their body.

Ethan started the energy signature in Rebirth, and the way he drew it, each GL had a different signature of sorts, different ways to use their rings. Ivan just started adding it in the Sin War.

I think EVS also mentioned it is a bit like a glowing badge/flashing light (instead of a police siren) to let the foes know they're dealing with the law.

I guess it has been going on long enough that I don't always notice it anymore..

The only time I dig them is when there's only one per person floating directly in front of their badge during flight/ The only times cops use sirens is when they're tailing somebody in their car. Getting your head bumped in the Batmobile shouldn't cause your head to have GL symbols floating around you like stars.

Agreed, but a little humor now and again never hurts.

I too prefer this costume, it seems more complete then the current one.

The modern look is pretty close, so I don't mind it too much. It has grown on me quite a bit, but the classic look works as well.

I like the glowing emblem when it appears as an extension of the emblem on his chest. As if it were the emblem on his shielding. I just don't like it when it kind of floats hither and thither around him. Mind you this is not something that keeps up at night, I just brought it up to see what people thought. I am doing a Hal drawing right now and was thinking about the current series and I remembered this current trend.

yeah, the floating GL sigils are "badges", an idea started by EVS. The worst of it was probably that Cyborg Superman Cover with a circlet of badges hovering around Hal. Usually the badge reflects the logo of the ring-bearer, ie, Kyle's JL costume had badges that looked like the now ION logo.

I'm not a big fan of the symbol as "police siren". EVS used it as one part of each GL's aura, but when it's just the symbol floating in front of a GL's chest I think it's distracting. Seeing it once in a rare, rare while would be better, imo.

I like it as port of the aura but not floating behind or to the left
