Its 66 pages. Featuring around 10 different high profile artists. What did you expect?

So it's twice as long, but costs well over twice as much. Guess there's no such thing as economy of scale...

No I honestly didn't expect that (though I'm sure it mentioned that in the solicit, so I should have known already. I guess I don't usually pay attention to the prices in the solicits), and am not too happy about it. But it's just one issue. I can deal.

Its TRIPLE the pages not double. And again, you're paying for page rates. EVS and Ivan Reis alone have two of the highest page rates in the business. That's where the extra money is going. Plus its high profile, so you're supposed to care about the issue enough to ignore all costs.

Usual page count is 32, not 22. Check the solicits.

Yeah, a bunch of that is ads, but I imagine that's true here, too. I'd be really surpised if they usually give the page count with ads, but for some reason gave the page count without ads just for this month's solicit (which solicit actually says 64 pages, incidentally, exactly twice what a usual issue lists as).

Though if this issue DOESN'T have ads, I guess that could help explain the higher cost per page.

The "paying for page rates" idea doesn't really wash for me. That isn't how USUAL issue pricing works. They don't charge more for the monthlies if the artist has a higher page rate. They get a higher page rate because they contribute to selling more copies. And this is going to sell a BUNCH of copies. They don't NEED to ramp up the price to afford to put some high tier artists on it. Plus those high page rate artists are very likely doing ONE page apiece in this case- that's not exactly going to break the bank.

No, you hit the nail on the head with it being a "high profile issue". Very few people that have been following GL at all will be likely to skip this issue no matter WHAT they charge (and many that HAVEN'T will get this issue anyway), so they will gouge while they can.

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the fear bug (or is everyone just pretending not to see it?)

The worst part of Green Lantern history is better left unseen and unmentioned.

Especially since it clashes with the ET retcons already established by the New 52...but inconsistency? In a Johns book? Is anyone surprised?

I figure there will be one last recap of Hal's origin in GL vol 5 #20, just for old times' sake.

It'll show how Hal received his ring from a dying Santa Claus on Christmas Eve when his sleigh crashed in the desert. Turns out Santa's evil twin brother, Parallax, was secretly the one who shot Santa's sleigh out of the sky with a white lantern ring he got from his secret benefactor Krona (this is all behind the Guardians' backs, as Parallax has, along with Krona, for billions of years been one of the Guardians of the universe, and the only one who ever took a name).

Krona, as it will be revealed in the issue, was actually a Skrull all along and this entire thing has been setting the stage for next summer's DC/Marvel crossover event with the GLC and the Nova Corps. Fans will be buzzing when they find out Hal Jordan, and not Norman Osbourne, actually killed Gwen Stacy.

In all seriousness I'm surprised DC never actually made their own version of the Skrulls. Johns would have used that plot alot over the years with his GL retcons.

Drunk Driving Hal = Skrull Imposter
Hal nails underage Arisia= Pervy Skrull Imposter
Hal quits the Corp to stay on Earth and nail Carol= Skrull Imposter
Hal gets reinstated but wanders the Earth to find himself= Skrull Imposter
Hal turns on the Corps= Skrull imposter
Parallax Hal= Super Skrull

There is probably alot more but I think i made my point.

Since this book was delayed until May 22...are they just going to delay all three epilogues until the following week?

No wonder it's delayed. They can't even decide how many pages it is. The solicit said 64, then articles said 66, now we hear 88? I'll be surprised if it is really 88, but that would at least make the $8 pricetag more sensible.

I found the GL squirrel, I even found the RL kitteh, but where's the damn fear-bug?

Well at least Doug Mahnke is not drawing this issue. I don't like his art at all.
