the decline rate seems to be slowing on HJ&tGLC that is a good sign.

Both titles have slowed their sales dips to 200-500 units from one issue to the next. That's at least typical and it shows that most of the people that were going to jump ship have already done so. Eventually both titles will have few enough orders that DC will do something about it, but they don't have to right now. It seems like the GL franchise can stay on the back burner for a while.

If I were DC I'd start taking pitches from writers now; start planning on ending both of these titles and replace them with new titles with new #1s. Also, make Green Lantern vol 6 one of those titles.

I'm not sure what they can do about Green Lanterns' numbers sliding, but yeah probably some time next year they will switch up the Hal/GLC book. Venditti has been on the book a long time and I'm not sure what his end game is.

I have to assume that his pitches and plots are superior to anything else being submitted.

They'll definitely do something, but a shakeup is inevitable at this rate. Whether its something small like swapping the rosters [like say One of the main 4 is paired with Baz or Cruz in GLs while the other joins the GLC book] or something big like they get rid off some of the Human GLs.

I'm sure the thinking was,"These are Geoff's characters, so how can this fail? Besides, there are countless Latinas and Muslims out there who have been dying for an excuse to buy one of our comics!"

Exactly, it's such an obviously ham-fisted move to introduce some sense of diversity in the comic, but diversity alone doesn't sell. The stories have to be good, we have to care about the protagonist, but nobody likes Simon, and Jessica is an ill fit for a GL IMO.
