Harbinger Down (2015)

"There's more goo than we thought."

An Alaska crab boat also carrying scientists accidentally comes across an unreported Soviet space pod and unleashes a mutation. A Thing knock off, but not horrible for a cheapie. Lance Henriksen plays the captain.

"I'm not crazy; I'm in control!"

Lance Henriksen in a monster flick that ISN'T about Bigfoot? I refuse to believe it.

Hey, there's no Sasquatch in Aliens . . . at least not in the cut I saw.

I swear, though, after a certain point (early 2000s, maybe) he only did Sasquatch films for Syfy Channel. It was practically his new shtick.

In honor of the 500th anniversary of the start of the Reformation.
And for that lesser-known holiday also celebrated on October 31 . . .

The Howling (1981)

"Repression is the father of neurosis."

My full moon movie this month.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

"I want you to bring me, before nightfall, a set of postmortem knives.
-An autopsy? On Lucy?
No, no, no. Not exactly. I just want to cut off her head and take out her heart."

Yeah, I'm not sure if that's just fan work or actually appeared on some DVD, but I liked it.

The Howling is an awesome movie, I've written about it a few times. Good werewolf movies seem like a rare treat.

Batman vs. Two-Face (2017)

"Batman, Look at the size of those balls."

Farewell, Adam "the real Batman" West.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995)

"Count Dracula, allow me to introduce Professor Abraham Van Helsing of London University. He's a doctor of rare diseases as well as theology and philosophy.
-And gynaecology.
Oh, I didn't know you had your hand in that too?"

Agreed. My standard for werewolf movies is probably lower than most because that's my favorite kind of monster, but Howling is way up on my list. It bums me when I hear people put it down in comparison to An American Werewolf in London because it came out the same year. To me, those are both really good werewolf movies doing their own thing. Heck, one's a wolfman and one's a . . . I don't know, really large, deformed wolf.

Some thoughts on The Howling:

http://cropsycrypt.blogspot.com/2013...s-musings.html

Dude I love werewolves too (American Werewolf in London being my fave). Dog Soldiers is another good one. I liked Ginger Snaps too. The Wolfman (director's cut) remake was good; definitely underrated IMO.

Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden (2012)

"We're going to need a backup plan . . . maybe two."

Despite being a TV movie and no Zero Dark Thirty, I thought this was pretty good.

Coraline (2009)

"T'ain't all bad, miss. Thou art alive. Thou art still living."

I like all those, but the original Wolfman is my favorite.

For the Universal monster movies the original Frankenstein will always be my fave. I watch it every fall.

Kaw (2007)

"Aren't they as smart as dogs?
-Smarter."

Ravens attack a small town on the sherif's last day. It was alright. They use a lot of real birds and the CGI ones are often noticeable, but don't look bad for a low-budget movie. Rod Taylor guests as the town doctor.

Sky High (2005)

"Yeah, well if life were to suddenly get fair, I doubt it would happen in high school."

My favorite of the original Universal horror movies is The Mummy. The screenplay was written by John L. Balderston, a reporter for the New York World who had been there when King Tut's tomb was opened.

Godzilla (1954)

"Humans are weak animals."

Happy 63rd, Godzilla.

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

"And get your filthy pig knuckle off my desk!"

It was pretty good. Sure maybe there were too many jokes, but I was laughing, and the cast was great too. Plus Jeff Goldblum acting like Jeff Goldblum is never a bad thing, that and The Hulk talking was awesome. I'm not sure if it's my favorite MCU film, but I do think it's one that I'll revisit several times.

Last Passenger (2013)

"You're determined to go into a hospital tonight, aren't you?"

A British train-out-of control movie.

The Locals (2003)

"Are you coming to the party?"

Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United (2013)

"Scream it all out."

Weak.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

"Best not to say more. Bedways is rightways now, so best we go homeways and get a bit of spatchka."

Despite being a rabid consumer of cinema, when I see this movie again and others of such quality, a part of me thinks "why bother to make more movies when the highest achievements have already been made in the medium?"

Twilight of Honor (1963)

"Examine the witness, don't undress her."

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

I'll post a spoiler review in the Justice League thread, but in short, this film was...watchable. Mostly.

...Batman and Alfred were worth it. And Wonder Woman.

Night of the Creeps (1986)

"I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here.
-What's the bad news?
They're dead."

Born to Fight (2004)

"We proclaim victory over evil."

Psycho II (1983)

"Would you care to share my toasted cheese sandwich?"

Damien: Omen II (1978)

"The boy has got to die!"
