I picked up #4 yesterday but nobody in town has copies of #1 through 3 so I can't read it. I'm going out of town tonight with my friends to watch a 10pm showing of Evil Dead, so I have 2 other places to check for the issues. Hopefully by tomorrow night I'll be caught up with you guys.

Morning Glories was amazing. West redeemed himself to me with that one for his wretched Demon Knight recommendation. Some people seem to have a problem with the interior art in MG, but I think it's really good.. Not to mention consistent. And as a Star Wars and LOST fan, I enjoy that it comes from an obvious fan of both properties.

Quote:
While it’s long been announced that Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Eisner-winning epic Locke & Key is approaching the story’s conclusion, details of the finale have finally been announced, and the finale has become even bigger than originally revealed.

The concluding series, Locke & Key: Omega, will now run five issues instead of six, and the finale itself will bring the Keyhouse down in the form of LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA, a series of two forty-eight-page issues that will end the series with the kind of intense, macabre aplomb that made it a hit for six series!

“We hadn’t wanted to reveal the direction this finale was going to take until now in order to maintain necessary secrecy over how LOCKE & KEY wraps up,” said series editor and IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “But after Omega, there can only be Alpha. And the series will end much the way it began, in the form of an extra-length issue. Two, in this case. Hard to fit this much death and destruction into just a regular-sized issue…”

Ryall added “It’s been an incredible rewarding six years of Locke & Key, and we’ve loved seeing Locke & Key build a larger and more rabid audience with each volume of the series. Add to that the fans who’ve liked the series enough to tattoo it on their bodies, the actual keys built by Israel Skelton’s Skelton Crew Studios, the Fox pilot, the Eisner Awards and everything else we’ve experienced, and it’s been one of the more rewarding series IDW has ever published. And now it’s time to close this storyline in a way that will be as equally memorable as everything we’ve seen over nearly 40 issues from Hill, Rodriguez and colorist Jay Fotos.”

Locke & Key has enjoyed a massively successful critical and commercial run and found a die-hard group of passionate fans. Though all good things must come to an end, LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA promises to cap things off in the kind of legendary, eye-popping fashion that can only come from the minds of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

Locke & Key is indeed, better than Morning Glories. But they are just different levels of awesome to me.

And now this news about L&K kind of makes sense. It was weird how the last miniseries was 7 issues, then suddenly they were all quiet when it came time to solicit the last two issues. There will still be a wait between Omega #5 and Alpha #1, but with the size of the Alpha two parter, it'll be worth it.

Locke & Key Coming to the Big Screen

by SuperHeroHype

June 19, 2013

Way back in November, rumors began to circulate that writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were circling a deal to make a trilogy of films based on the IDW comic book series Locke & Key. Today, The Hollywood Reporter says that this deal has finally been put into place and the feature adaptation of the comic will be coming to the big screen from Universal Studios.

Kurtzman and Orci will produce along with their partner Bobby Cohen at K/O Paper Products. There's no mention of whether the pair will pen the screenplay for the film or whether a trilogy is still planned, as was originally rumored, but check back here for future updates on the project.

Locke & Key was originally planned as a television series at Fox, with a pilot even being produced, but it was eventually passed without a series pick-up.

The comic series, created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, tells the story of the Locke family who travel to a place called Keyhouse, a New England mansion with fantastic keys that open up doors that give them incredible abilities. The building is also home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all. The series is currently three issues away from the final issue, and we suggest you start catching up now!

So more news about the film going ahead. Anything to let us know there's still life in this project!

Finally finished Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft. I didn't come away in love like a lot of people I know in real life, and everyone in this thread. I did enjoy it though, and thought there's a lot of Joe Hill's daddy in his writing. I honestly felt like I was reading a Stephen King comic, which is a compliment.

My only gripe really is I didn't come away falling in love with any of the characters, which is a shame as the story looks to be heavily character based. And the odd part of it is I can't point to anything technical in Hill's writing as to why I didn't love the characters. I didn't hate anyone, I just didn't really get attached to anyone either. I'll probably keep reading and pick up the 2nd trade eventually, just won't be in a rush to do so.
