It's hilarious that he tried to keep the A-list artists away from Bendis.

Is that a thing? I wouldn't be surprised.

Kind of validates what I've been saying all along. He's been the Geoffather.

Except now he actually doesn't have any power anymore. Except maybe some "favor" with Didio, though I'm not even sure exactly how strained or not strained their relationship is. Perhaps when Geoff had to face the firing squad for all the bad decisions around "Justice League" Didio wanted to put a lot of distance between them.

I think the abrupt character assassination for Wally West wouldn't have happened if Geoff was still in good standing with Dan.

Someone who is interested in keeping his peers down is not someone who you should hire for your firm. That is a grave psychological flaw.

For every comic Geoff has sold, how many has he prevented from being sold?

I know it wasn't the reason, but there's actually a kind of logic in not putting all your eggs in one basket. If you have an a list writer on a (theoretically) flagship book, you probably could better use an a-list artist for a lesser book.

He fixes it so that when he stops writing a comic, the sales go down. I noticed that a long time ago.

A big part of your job as a writer is to make the title you're working on a viable seller for any writers who follow you. Johns though takes pains to do the opposite. He also doesn't want a hotshot like Bendis following him. He wants to hand his comic off to someone who is decidedly lackluster.

Speaking of the timeline, Near Mint condition finally uploaded the second half of the timeline.

Here's the first:

You shouldn't spell out a timeline because that paints you into corners for no reason. Just tell stories, please.

"If they ever get Wally back on track." Nice little dig.

I agree with that. Before Crisis, they would just kind of ignore that decades had passed and who really cared? If Bart can be 10 for 31 years, why can't Superman just sale through the ages?

Bleeding Cool: DC Comics Has a Back-Up Plan For 5G – and It’s Called Black Label?
Quote:
But it looks as if DC Comics isn’t putting all its eggs in one basket. And realises that replacing all their lead comic books with new characters taking the roles may not be universally popular.

So I have been told they have a back-up plan for 5G and it’s called Black Label.

As 5G rolls out, DC Comics will also launch a number of new oversized-titles, starring Bruce Wayne as Batman, Clark Kent as Superman, Diana as Wonder Woman, Arthur Curry as Aquaman, Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and Barry Allen and/or Wally West as The Flash, at $7.99 each.

Somewhere between what they have been trialling with the Giant books and the current Black Label line. Aimed at the older reader and ongoing. Having their cake and eating it…

Ugh. I hate oversized books. They don't fit in my boxes.

I remember the Zero Hour timeline in the back of #0. It lasted all of like a year or so.

I don't think they mean oversized as in tabloid or treasury edition. More like page count as in 100 page giant thing.

You're probably right. I just assumed that because the Black label have been a wider format so far.

They have? I didn't know that. I'm not a fan of playing the the dimensions of comic books we have all agreed on.

Yeah, the trades are normal dimensions, but the first prints on the Batman, Joker, and Harley books have all been wide.

Yeah, Black Label pretty much guarantees a European Album format, unless it's reprints of older books like New Frontier.
