First impressions:

*The alternate cover with Jessica is sweet.

*I certainly hope she's not injured by bullets while her ring is functional. That would be silly.

*What's Larfleeze doing there?

I liked the bit where Jessica and Simon both thought something less polite than they said.

Well, I think they're building on that one. It will probably be integral to this first arc.

So they just needed a new way to tell the future and hype what's going to happen
Unless Emerald sight has something to do with that power in the box in Rebirth special

emerald sight might be a way to make Simon DCRebirth's answer to Inhuman precog Ulysses, and the impetous for DC's next crossover Civil Crisis, lol. Batman vs Superman where it is revealed that Hal Jordan has secretly been Par(Hal)lax all along.

I guess the power ring being the most powerful weapon just wasn't enough.

I thought this was fine, it's not a great book but it certainly doesn't suck. Jessica is growing on me but I'm finding Simon to be a bit tiresome. I was originally chalking up his dickishness to being a combination of having a chip on his shoulder/wanting to prove himself to the GLC/stress from having Waller breathing down his neck but it's coming through a bit too strong, think it needs to be reigned in.

Overall though the writing was better than Venditti's stuff and I liked the art.

3/5.

I feel like I owe it to the hobby to give the first few issues of both series a shot before walking away. I've been actively collecting/reading GL for 31 years. I picked up the rebirth issue and #1. Hated them, but holding onto a thin strand of hope that HJ&TGLC will be worthwhile.

If sales plummet fast on GLs and Hal's book is good, I could maybe keep going. I don't know.

3/5, Decent issue, Emerald sight seems to be something good, and I think Jessica and Simon's pairing is a work in progress. Again, hate to see the Red Lanterns reduced in importance, but maybe something substanstial will come of it. It seems for every Guardian we know about, there are two, or three we don't.

FYI, DCE spoke with Humphries last week. Sounds like Emerald Sight is some kind of non-specific will-powered prophecy.

Isn't Ysmault supposed to be in Sector 2814? This book says it's 666.

Remember that whole arc with the Red Lanterns taking over 2814... and their base was Ysmault in 2814?

I thought this book was bad. Uninspired art, story, enemies, and plot. While disliking the entire direction, I thought the Rebirth issue was okay-ish, but this one is just not interesting at all. Also, if I'm correct about the Ysmault thing, and I'm pretty positive I am, Green Lantern has been littered with things that show that the writers and editors don't really care all that much about it. You must not care THAT much when you can look something up instantly with a google search and you STILL get it wrong, even when it's important in your story that people are actually paying you to do.

It seems this entire story hinges on Jessica and Simon's relationship, and neither of them are interesting, together or independently. I know the writer(s) could have done A LOT more with them already in 40 pages.

swap out simon for john and this would've been 5 stars to some i guess.

During the Johns era, Ysmault was in sector 2814, that was changed during the Venditti/Soule Green Lantern/Red Lantern double issue. So yea editorial missed out on this. Although, that mix up doesn't add or take away anything from story, imo.

the art was nice, liked it a whole lot better than billy tan or bernard chang. i like where this series is going, especially with the september solicts. the simon and jessica dinner issue sounds hilarious. i'm in.
