First character building comic I've seen in a while. Despite the lack of need for these two Lanterns, at least they're being used relatively well.
The next arc should be decent, nice to see the return of an old foe not seen in ages. |

This one actually wasn't bad. There wasn't much in the way of action but I liked the family part and Simon's mom.
I thought Simon looked a little funny without his uniform on, but maybe that's because its been a while since I've seen him without it. |

For the seconds between seeing the picture and reading the dialogue I actually thought "who's this new member of the Baz family with a robot on his arm?"

I just finished it. I put it down about halfway through when Baz left the house in a huff because the cookies weren't coming out well. It took everything I had to go back and finish it. The dialogue and writing for these two idiots is just too ham fisted and over the top for me. Jessica makes me want to punch babies every time she has inner monologue. I don't care about her anxiety...at all.
The art goes from being serviceable to excellent. My issues with this series aren't with the art but with the over the top dialogue, shitty stories and god awful choices in villains. The book is just dreadfully bad and can't get cancelled fast enough. I'm going to read HJ&TGLC #5 right now. Hopefully that helps wash the taste of this turd out of my mouth...

I make no claims that it's well written or couldn't be more concise, but I actually got a kick out of her running away because I hate having dinner with strangers (not that keen to do it with a lot of family or friends either) and always get flustered when I can't get out of it.

Too hammy. The writer doesn't get her mental problems. He tries to make them cute for audience consumption and IMO it doesn't work. It's like he's pandering and sugarcoating at the same time. I feel like this is Disney sitcom level of writing.
Hal #5 was SO much better. If I'm going to do this (getting both titles), I may end up just bag and boarding and filing away the Baz/Cruz title and not bothering to read it. At least the Hal title has been enjoyable the last few issues.

It is. Reading them back to back was like doing a comic book 180.

And I thought EVS has particularly been knocking it out of the park these past couple issues (even by his standards). The emotion he captured in Hal's reactions was top-notch stuff. Hope he pops in here for some well-deserved accolades.
