I still don't understand why we are calling this midseason instead of season finale.
I get that's what they're telling us and all, but c'mon, it'll be a year for the rest of the season.
That's not like a USA show that will break up for spring and fall, that's a difference of a year.
These are two 8 episode seasons.

I know!!

but I prefer to say mid-season because the last episode was WEAK for a season finale!!

The look on Hank's face this episode was worth the entire wait.

Hank is seriously the best character in this show for me. As much as I like seeing Walt succeed, I want to see Hank win.

So I finally caught up on Breaking Bad. Holy fuck balls. That stare down in the garage got MY panties in a twist.

I did not like Hank at all when this show started, and now...he might just be my favorite character. Followed closely by Saul. Man, how I freaking love Saul.

also Jessie.

Word!

I was able to catch up to season 5 last week when Netflix added it to their steaming menu, so I was ready to watch last night episode and man, Hank's literal gut wrenching reaction when he found Walt's book while sitting on the toilet.

Everything that lead up to the stare down in the garage totally paid off in that moment. Both actors gave temendous perfomances, especially Hank. I mean, the look on his face was epic. It was like in Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker finally confronts Darth Vader.

I like that they are doing what Damages did in their seasons, showing the outcome and letting the rest of the season catch up bit-by-bit. I don't think that story telling trapping works well in movies, but does well in TV.

The thing I like most about this show is that it has the balls to do what it did last night. It didn't tease us the rest of the season with "Will Walt and Hank confront each other?", it did it flat out, right there.
It's also the reason Dead Freight is my favorite episode, they didn't save the heist for the season finale, they did it that episode. Plot doesn't get thrown to "important" episodes, each episode has it tucked it.

Yeah, shortening the episode amount helps that so much. Too bad a lot of others don't follow suit.

Well, a lot of others can't afford to, honestly. Most TV shows keep things episodic because they know people often don't want to follow a story. Which is why NCIS is the number one show in America and why Breaking Bad can only grab a 10th of their audience.
The good news is that Breaking Bad is setting a new precedent for cable shows, the bad news is most don't get what is so good about it, so they're not getting it right.
It's like shows like The Event and Kings that tried to do what Lost did without understanding why Lost was so appealing.

Very true. Seems like cable and paid cable are blazing the trail though. As I see more and more following the formula. Still have a ways to go, but broadcast is seriously fucking lost in most ways. Like all mediums though, what's always popular isn't what's best. Sad, but true.

Yeah, Hank has become the one I root for. Walt is the most interesting, because he's changed so much and has gone on this crazy dark character arc that's so interesting. But I'm a sucker for a hero, so Hank's the one I gravitated to as Walt became more despicable.

My favorite part of the entire series is the parking lot attack sequence where Hank had to fight for his life with the two Mexicans. The suspense was incredible for a TV show!

My favorite part of the series is when Walt saved Jesse's life on the corner that one night...with his car...at the end of Season 4.

Season 2 has been the low point of the series

I never thought I'd agree with you, but I do. Season 2's biggest problem is how disingenuous it is. The flashfowards to the "event" at the end of the season is ultimately just unsatisfying and an entire wild goose chase. They tease something terrible happening, they tease the deaths of two people, they tease an explosion of terrible proportions, and they don't just back out of it, it's clear that it is never meant to be anything other than the plane collision.
More than that, the "will he won't he cook again" just isn't as interesting the first time he does it.
I like Season 2 and all, but it's so disingenuous.
Season 5 on the other hand is looking up to be the best of the series yet.

As for my favorite scene, while I love Dave's pick so much (it's an easy second considering just how much I really really love Hank) the heist in Dead Freight is just a damn good sequence that made me think "Walt is gonna get that kid killed" the entire time. Only, it's not Todd who went in the end.

Though, that brings up something, do you guys think we'll see Todd again?

Oh no doubt. I can't wait for his return. As much as I liked this latest episode, I really didn't like them just skipping over all the other shit that was going on in those final episodes. Todd needs to come back and wreck shit. I think he'll end up killing Jesse.

Yeah, Todd is definitely a loose end. Not sure if he'll kill Jesse, but he'll surely cause more misery and complicate the plot before he gets his.

The flash forward is killing me. Are Skylar and the kids tucked away in NH? Did they leave Walt and are hiding from him as well as the Czech drug lords? Have they come to some harm? Are Hank and his wife still alive?

The only person we know won't die is Walt Jr.
