Jarhead 2: Field of Fire (2014)

"Are we on the right side of this? These aren't our questions to ask. A Marine fights for the person standing next to him."

Meh. An average to subpar war movie. They had the annoying tendency to overuse pop-up info subtitles like the name, rank, and birthplace of every good guy and time and place markers. Almost all are unnecessary but like 2/3 of them are outright superfluous (e.g., when an Afghan soldier is introduced and all the same info pops up as they're saying it).

Jarhead 3: The Siege (2016)

"Passion, dignity, hope, and money. That's the way it works."

Aqua Teen hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters for DVD (2007)

"I am a master of disguise!"

I literally cannot describe this. I thought Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie was weird as shit, but I think this might actually be even stranger. I thought it was kind of funny despite it being batshit insane, and my dad laughed at a few parts, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you want a non-acid acid trip.

Papa Hemingway in Cuba (2015)

"Physical pain is nothing compared to the pain of a lost bond."

A decent enough movie looking at the relationship (based on a real-life one) between Hemingway (in his late 50s in Cuba) and a young reporter who idolizes him then befriends him. It shows EH warts and all; neither saint not villain.

Mighty Joe Young (1949)

"Am I dreamin', or did I just see a gorilla? And a beautiful dame!
Is this interesting?"

Don't think I had seen all this through before. Quite worth the watch and amazing work.

Hironymus Bosch: Touched by the Devil (2015)

"That demon is fabulous."

This documentary doesn't cover Bosch in any depth per se. Instead, it follows the preparation for an exhibition including a group of experts that examine the paintings in preparation. There's much more politics involved in that than I knew. Apparently, since Bosch ran a shop with apprentices who continued his style. So, there's much debate as to which are legitimate Bosch painting and which are from his school. Not surprisingly, some of the museum were hesitant to have theirs examined by this group. On the other hand, a Venice museum welcomed it because they were low on funds and agreed to a loan with restoration.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

"May we all in our dotage be proud to say, 'I was adored once too.'"

This movie has some of the best comedic timing I know and it turned 25 today.

Indeed. The stop motion is quite advanced and has a lot of character. Plus, young Ben Johnson!

[Rifftrax:] The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009/10)

"Give my torso to Abercrombie and Fitch!"

My full-moon movie.

One Dark Night (1983)

"You'll be surrounded by the dead!"

From the same director as Friday the 13th Part VI. A girl (Meg Tilly) desperate to join a HS girl clique, spends the night in a mausoleum, which happens to be the new resting place of a psychic known for feeding off people's energy.

Yup, it's fantastic. A bit talky and overdramatic, but considering the budget he had to work with, Boorman really did a lot to bring the Arthurian legends to life. I've always been interested in seeing the alleged 3 hour + cut, but I doubt it'll ever get released. Still a guy can dream.

Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers (1984)

"These evil men, they rape the fields and pillage the women.
-That's evil men."

Purple Rain (1984)

"But I'm here to tell you, there's something else."

For some reason I just felt in the mood to re-watch for a week or so and got to it last night.

Princess Mononoke (1997)

"What exactly are you here for?
-To see with eyes unclouded by hate."

The Big Heist (2001)

"Jimmy's got the gift."

A pretty bad TV movie of the Lufthansa Heist. They took way more liberties with history than even Goodfellas and played it for laughs as if they were the biggest buffoons that happened to hit big.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988)

"Dinner's served!"

My dad and I got a lot of laughs out of this, as goofy as it was (the load of dirty jokes, the baby with makeup, the dog). One big thing I noticed was the one council member, Mr. Glotter, was NOT played by Micheal Moriarty (whom he does resemble), but rather by Kurt Fuller, who also played the Sheriff in the first Scary Movie (as well as other things I've probably seen). I actually had to check because he looked so damn familiar.

Aquaman (2018)

My granddad took me to see this in theaters despite the fact that I was not yet nine and half the jokes went over my head. We both still got a kick out of it and fast forward thirty years later and I not only own the movie, but got to meet Elvira.

[Cheech & Chong's] Things Are Tough All Over (1982)

"Sometimes it's not even the drugs that'll kill you man. What really kills you is looking for drugs."

Check Point (2017)

"There are no innocents."

It's a shame that this film had so much potential with several cult stars in it and a decent premise (Americans in a small-town not far from DC plot to overthrow the government and some retired marines--including one who's homeless--are the only ones who can stop them), but doesn't pay off. It was alright, but it came off like one of those kickstarter movies made by fanboys without much work on plot or dialogue. [At one point, two of said marines, having uncovered the plot and needing to move fast instead reminisce while very slowly prepping guns.] Worth a watch for action fans who don't mind b movies.

Whatever Works (2009)

"The human race?! They've had to install automatic toilets in public restrooms, because people can't be entrusted to flush a toilet."

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

"I used to think you were a swell guy. Well, to be honest, I thought you were an imbecile. But then I figured out you WERE a swell guy; a little slow, maybe, but a swell guy. Well, maybe you're not so slow, But you're not so swell either. And it looks like you're an imbecile after all!"

Turned 25 last night and it had been a while since I'd seen it (got it from the local library). Probably underrated.

Speaking of Proxy, Netflix did its usual of dropping films I only recently add to my list (including Yellow Sky), so I won't be seeing Tim Robbins anytime soon.

Monsters University (2013)

"Don't worry Scott. I don't want you to think of me as your new dad. After all, we're fraternity brothers first.
-This is so weird.
Just think of me as your big brother that's marrying your mother. Wait, hold on, we're brothers who share the same mom slash wife."

Monsters, Inc. (2001)

"So that's puce."

Lady Snowblood (1973)

"I'm here to take you where you really belong."

Yeah, you have to keep watch of expiring movies on Instant Netflix. At the end of each month I google the lists of movies expiring the next month (there's several sites that compile them). Then I also check the "my list" on my computer at least once a week for expiring dates on the right.
Of course, if you're talking about the mail list, that doesn't really give you a head's up.

I almost exclusively use the mail list, especially since a lot of stuff I want isn't available to stream. Netflix doesn't let me know they're going to pull stuff from that list and permanently shelf it, which means unexpected and unpleasant surprises.

Hounddog (2007)

"You don't have to shake. If you stand still, you can reach deeper into the sound."

A good and well-performed movie, but not always a comfortable one.

Woman in Gold (2015)

"They're hoping to drag it out until I die? Well, I will do them the favor of hanging around."

Moving real-life story, which I've heard of, but didn't know the details.

Understandable. Hopefully, you're sharing it or not paying for it at all. Otherwise, it sounds like you should drop the streaming plan. They definitely focus more on TV shows and their original programs (I think they said as much a couple years ago), which sucks for me as more of a fan of older movies. But I still find enough to watch that I have a queue of like 300 movies. And for now (I know it's going to change), they have a good selection of Disney stuff, which has often included the Marvel stuff I've missed and the new Star Wars stuff that I don't even want to waste a mail spot for, but am willing to stream when I get to it.

Yeah, they don't warn you there. The only trend I've noticed is that such titles often move down in availability before disappearing (Long Wait, Very Long Wait, then gone)
I don't feel like it happens to me that much, but I keep a separate list of movies not available on Netflix. I then check for them in library system and on Youtube (which hit fairly often). If I know it's something I really want, I just move it to my Amazon Wish List.
Not sure why I shared all that. It either proves I'm OCD or serious about movie watching.
