Those things in the background of the banner, I'm not sure what they are. They could be some sort of floating structure.

I'm talking about the robots seen in most of the "beauty" shots of Oa in most of the trailers, the little flying droids with "electrified" tentacles. Here's a screen cap from the 4-minute long Wondercon trailer, just because that's what I had handy in 1080p:

The little buggers are apparently EVERYWHERE in the skies over Oa. I even think there's at least 2 I didn't circle in that screen cap. Just watch the trailers again and you'll see what I mean, now that you know what you're looking for.

They have to do something to decorate the place. In the old days, Oa was drawn like Tattooine with a couple of yellow building clustered together in one spot. Pretty bland, and I'm all for them jazzing up the place in the comics AND the movie.

I realized after I posted that that was a possible interpretation of what he said. I'm just so used to people thinking Red, Yellow, and Blue are THE primary colors (which isn't strictly accurate for pigments either, but close enough) that I overlooked that possibility initially.

Tinypic.com and Imageshack.com both do quick and easy image resizing. For future reference....

My opinion on the small robot looking things. Ive always pondered who did the day to day runnings on Oa. You know maintaining the buildings, cooking the food, all that stuff. I couldnt see hardened GL's wanting to do that, so Ive always figured the Guardians hired volunteers to do those things. Maybe those things are shuttles to transport workers on Oa?

That's because in the the old days there was at least some effort to have shit make sense.

Ryan Reynolds says GREEN LANTERN is a "Re-Imagining"

Some late comments from WonderCon via MTV has Ryan Reynolds commenting on his character of Hal Jordan in the GREEN LANTERN film. Check it out what Reynolds had to say below:
Quote:

"This one is particularly challenging because you want to get it right for so many people coming in with a built-in expectation."

"It's one thing to do it for a film when you're inventing a character that nobody's heard of. That's great. It's another when you're reimagining a character that people have known for decades. So that's not an insignificant challenge. "You want to come in there and bring them something that is truly memorable and is exactly what they want blended with exactly what I want, because I am the guy that's got to do it," he added. "It's exciting. There are challenges."

True. I mean, as cool as it may look, Oa as a planet-wide cityscape is nonsensical. I don't know how many Guardians there are in the movie world, but I imagine it is still a handful, and I expect the total number of GLs is similar to the comics, too. Even if we assume a totally ludicrous prison population in Sciencells (on the order of a few million), and some support workers to maintain stuff, we are still looking at something that SHOULD easily fit into the area of New York City (and probably FAR less, given how built-up Oa looks). What would the REST of a planet-wide city be FOR?

(True, if they set up monuments for EVERY fallen GL, after a few billion years that's gonna take up a lot of space.)

(Also, I suppose the views we have had of Oa aren't clear enough to say that it IS a PLANET-WIDE city, but it sure looks like far more of the surface is in use than would be explained by a couple dozen inhabitants, a few thousand sometime visitors, and even a LARGE prison population.)

Funny story, true story... Oa being a yellow planet made perfect sense at the time, too! If you remember, the Guardians had said at times that the yellow weakness was there to ensure that GLs weren't too powerful, i.e. unstoppable. And when you saw that everything on Oa was yellow, it all made sense: A rogue GL wouldn't have been able to do much damage on Oa back in those days!

Of course, many Geoff-cons later, that's all changed now.

I'm thinking that the movie-makers took TOO much inspiration from George Lucas' Star Wars planet Coruscant, and the repair droids that maintained the buildings there. But there's one major flaw with having the Guardians use robot workers: The whole Manhunter debacle.

If they won't trust robots to wield the green light to defend the universe (with the exception of Stel and maybe a couple of others that have proven themselves worthy,) why would they want to have a bunch of droids floating around all over the place? Remember that the Green Lantern Corps, comprised of SENTIENT, ORGANIC LIFEFORMS was created BECAUSE the machine men known as the Manhunters had proven themselves untrustworthy. And we know the Manhunters are meant to exist in the movie continuity, because the video game that ties into the movie is all about the Manhunters returning to cause trouble!

And besides, when you wield the emerald energy of willpower, why do you have to have ANYONE do anything for you? You can do anything you want, anytime, as quickly as you can THINK IT. And as comic readers have known for decades, no one's more adept at wielding the emerald energy than the Guardians of the Universe! They don't patrol the universe themselves, they delegate that responsibility to the Corps. And they've got to do SOMETHING with their time. Might as well use their powers to clean up after themselves and their Corps... unless you think they just sit around watching porn on the interwebz all day!

I don't think the Manhunter problem would necessarily sour them on all robotic tech. I mean, if it isn't sentient, and it doesn't have access to the Green Energy, what's the big deal?

And I can totally see them being "above" any menial tasks, even if performed with GL energy. Their attention would be reserved for other, more important things.

Yes, I meant the "primary colors" of the color wheel - Red, Blue and Yellow (which correspond to the cyan, magenta and yellow (with black, CMYK) of the "subtractive" printing process). When mixing colors (not light) you use those three to make the other colors, so blue and yellow make green, blue and red make purple, red and yellow make orange, which are considered "secondary colors."

If you think about it, most superhero costumes are made from primary colors (along with black, white and gray) - Superman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, Flash, Thor, Captain Marvel... well, you get the idea.

But, to clarify, I personally don't think Green isn't a cool color, I'm just wondering what the average moviegoer will think, and if it will be a factor at all. I mean, look at all the criticism the first Hulk movie got for the exact shade of green they used. People made similar comments about the first GL trailer, too.

Just trying to figure out what the general audience might think. Though, of ally concerns, the color is probably the least of them.
