Default Have you ever felt...

So bored, that even though you have a multitude of things to possibly do, but not inspired enough to not really get any enjoyment out of it? I just can't really seem to bring myself to do really anything except maybe watch "House" and play some Dark Souls 2 for a bit.

I keep thinking to myself, "maybe I'll try writing and creating that Pathfinder campaign I've been wanting to do", but remember that I'm a horrible DM and I know next to nothing about creating a world. I wonder, "What if I started writing game reviews of things I've played or platinum'd", but think that I'd be horrible at it and worry if my writing style would be good enough for the reader to like or care about it.

I start to want to try and finally catch up on whatever comics I've been behind on from when I started to too busy with work, but just wonder what the point would be.

If this is what depression is like, god it sucks.

Two most important tools of a writer is empathy and confidence. You should definitely write and do all those things, you don't necessarily have to share them with people. Or you could write them and have someone look them over who would give you constructive criticism. Hell, send some of it to me and I'll look it over for ya.

I've just started up Pathfinder too, I was actually going to start a thread on here and see if anyone else was interested in doing some campaigns.

Sure sounds like depression to my untrained ear. Might want to see a professional, see if you can at least get a diagnosis and find out treatment options. Sounds like, whatever it is, it is robbing your life of joy, and that can't be healthy in the long run.

Could be depression.

Maybe you need something new instead of TV and video games.

Macrame, definitely macrame.

PS. I am also not a professional.

Yo.

I know yur reaching out here, but if yur thinking that U might be suffering from depression, perhaps U might benefit from seeing a professional to discussion yur feelings in a face-to-face??

I think that type of sitch might be best to help ya, really.

If you could barely bring yourself to get out of bed on a daily basis, I'd say you have depression. You don't. You have procrastination and laziness, and an inherent drive for short term pleasure over delay of gratification.

I'm not sure depression has to be quite that crippling to qualify as depression at all. But I'm not an expert, obviously.

If this helps at all, I found a list of possible symptoms of depression:

Quote:
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, symptoms of depression may include the following:

Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions

Fatigue and decreased energy

Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness

Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism

Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping

Irritability, restlessness

Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex

Overeating or appetite loss

Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment

Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings

Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
The bolded ones are the ones I'm hearing evidence of in his description.

"Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable"

Sounds like he's only lost interest in stuff that never interested him to begin with. He still enjoys his games and TV shows.

Question: Have you now or ever experienced severe clinical depression, diagnosed by a healthcare professional?

My mother has, my girlfriend has, and my brother is a psychiatrist. This sounds like depression to me.

TV and Video games are a comfort zone. Comics are something he's lost interest in. Depression seems accurate.

Yeah, I do usually just set stuff aside til later until it really starts to bother me.

No, The only time I visited one was when my high school counselor tricked my mother into signing a form telling me to see one. I explained what happened to the person and that visit lasted all of 10 minutes.

Wouldn't really surprise me honestly, considering what happened back in Ocotober, having to quit my job in December, moving to another city the same month, and just being at a standstill since.

I'm not saying it's not depression, I just don't think it should be the first conclusion drawn above all others.

Besides, comics aren't even that good these days. I read them out of routine more than anything.

Get yourself the help you need. If this has gone on for more than two weeks, reach out. Most major cities and a lot of mid-sized one have a crisis line you can call. Clergy can help, social services organizations can help, community groups can help. Stress is cumulative. It can cripple. It can also be undone. There is no shame to it, and it doesn't have to be pricey.

Get a good night's sleep once in awhile.

Good fortune to you.

I think the best advice is to not listen to anyone on these boards and just get evaluated. If you have serious concerns that you might have clinical depression, then it's on you to try and receive help. Do you have family or friends you could talk to about it, try to build up support before you go?

As much as a lot of people on here would like to help you, we're just forum members. All we can do is provide our OPINIONS on what you should or shouldn't do. You need support from people, and see what they think.

If you are serious, I hope you get help, considering that the list of symptoms included suicide attempts.

Thanks for your concerns guys. I'm feeling better now and just kinda regret making the post itself. I don't like the thought of having others worry about me.

Because what is the Dragon God without his confidence?

A Dragon God with no confidence?

Seriously though, glad you feel better.

Yeah, no worries. You just got to hear a bunch of people with no qualifications guess at something.

Shift your focus to never having any expectations about anything. Train yourself to remain in that state at all times.
