Well that's only exciting if the first movie is good enough (and the story structured in a way) that four more movies seem like a good idea.

Agreed. I don't want more stories in the Potterverse no matter what their quality. But I will want them if they are worth it.

Does that mean Depp has fallen that low or they're that desperate for star power for the next one or they're so happy with the feedback that they're willing to up the ante? |

The first, almost definitely. Depp has flat-out said he absolutely does not care what films he stars in anymore, so they can be as wonderful or as shitty as possible and he'll do them.

You can thank Rowling for that. She wanted only U.K. actors for the main characters. She was very specific about that.

[Actually, I do know why. It's because American producers perpetuate the cycle that Americans want all their movies Americanized as much as possible.]

Harry Potter is 38 today (less than a year younger than me), which also means JK Rowling is 53.

They get better as you progress. It could be my bias against child actors, but the first few are not that great. You also have to try to turn your brain off a little because there are SOOOO many plot holes and moments that just make you scratch your head. The plots are also not the best. To sum it up, Harry always (raws mangazuki) over-hears something that is directly relevant to what he has to do next, a magical item or spell will always appear at the exact right moment, the first 3/4 of the film will be a red herring chase and the last 1/4 of the film will be the true villain revealing his entire plan to Harry (very reminiscent of Scooby-Doo).
With all that being said, the world is interesting and does manage to entertain, if you can manage to hold down the urge to scoff at the screen every 5 minutes and just accept it for what it is; a children’s story told by an imaginative but not very thorough author. |

In The Goblet of Fire couldn't fake Moody have just made a quill into a port key. "Hey Harry hand me that quill." Boom in the cemetery.
