I have to say, I really don't mind this version of Hal. It's the most unique we've seen him in a while, and a nice departure from being "leader" of the corps.

Two stars.
Artwork was bland, even though the energy constructs were almost clear and sharp; it's like the colorist went back and corrected the pencilist. The storyline was also acceptable, and I don't want to spoil it too much but Hal needed a doctor for his friend because of what happened last issue, and beggars can't be choosers, but all too often places that don't ask questions have traps. Hal has surrounded himself with people he can't trust (even the saved person, compared to the criminal - at least the criminal has predictable actions). A starship that wants to become the KARR of space (or insert any anti-biological AI/she-hates-you starship trope here). And they still have to find Black Hand to find out why the Source Wall is leaking Medusa gravel. We do learn a little bit more about Krona's Energy Gauntlet and its' toll on the wielder. In TPB form this issue might be okay, but -eh- as a single issue. |

That echoes my thoughts. I guess the biggest part of this was the relationship building between Hal and Trapper, though Hal's crew still seems one-dimensional to me. The baddies here are an interesting idea - they could be fun in a better story, but still a cool addition to the DCU.

Not the best issue, but not too bad either. Sort of s filler issue, but as far as those go it was decent. I really liked the constructs Hal made, some of the more inventive I've seen him make in some time.

Though this didn't do much to propel the greater story, this is the kind of stuff I'd been wanting to see as part of Hal's regular duties as GL and fleshing out the various characters, factions, races, societies that make up life in sector 2814. |

This issue was decent outside of Hal looking like Kevin Sorbo. Trapper has just been a mediocre character so far, but some of the humorous banter between he and Hal (and Darlene, for that matter) was well done. It was also a good idea for Hal to remind everyone, both characters and readers, that he still has a cop's mentality even if his police force isn't functioning right now.

Boring. I like that they are taking chances with the character, but I personally find this super sleep-inducing. I miss the epic feel, even just from having 4 or 5 comic series going on at a time. Now it feels lonely and lost. Almost like the beginning of Vol 3...
Guess the series' peaks wouldn't be any good without the valleys... ![]() |
