  • Who else begins their MCU binges with "Hulk"? (not "Incredible Hulk")

    • The one with Eric Bana, Sam Elliot, and Nick Nolte? I like that film. It gets so much shit, but it really isn't bad.

      • Bana Hulk and Norton Hulk have different origins though. They're not the same character.

They don't, though. The opening of "The Incredible Hulk" could be treated as possibly one of many attempts by Banner to de-Hulk himself.

              • Hm. That could work. Interesting. I'd have to do a double feature at one point. But I only have the Bana Hulk as a pirated DVD my girlfriend brought me from her trip to Vietnam. No idea if the disc is even still readable.

                    • Alexandre Desplat To Score Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’

Alexandre Desplat has been hired to score Marvel Studios’ upcoming spy thriller Black Widow. The film is directed by Cate Shortland (Lore, Somersault) and stars Scarlett Johansson in the title role, alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz. Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok) wrote the screenplay based on a story by Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle) and Ned Benson (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby). Kevin Feige (Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man) is producing the project. Black Widow is set to be released on May 1, 2020 by Walt Disney Pictures.

I hope he stays on and doesn't leave over creative differences.

                      • So I called my LCS to check if the owner had any copies of Amazing Spider-Man #101 (Morbius first appearance) left, and he had sold his copy a short while before.

8.0 grading goes for $385 right now, which is pretty decent for a second-stringer like Morbius. The new series and especially the film are boosting his visibility.

                        • Christophe Beck To Score Marvel’s Disney+ Series ‘WandaVision’

Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has revealed in a recent interview with SESAC that he will be scoring Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ original series WandaVision. The show is developed by Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle) based on the Marvel Comics characters Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision and stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Kat Dennings and Randall Park who are reprising their roles from the Marvel feature films. They are joined by Teyonah Parris and Kathryn Hahn. Matt Shakman (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is directing all six episodes of the series’ first season. Schaeffer is also executive producing the project with Kevin Feige (Avengers, Iron Man, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy). Beck has previously scored Marvel’s Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. WandaVision will premiere later this year on Disney+.

                          • Marvel's 'Howard the Duck,' 'Tigra & Dazzler' Dead at Hulu
                            Marvel is cleaning house.

As the transition from the Jeph Loeb-led era of Marvel Television comes to its end and Kevin Feige begins to have greater creative control over film and television projects, the comic book company has opted to end development of two of its four animated Hulu comedies. No longer moving forward are Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler, the latter of which was paused in December as part of a creative overhaul. The other two shows in Marvel's original four-show animated comedy universe set up at Hulu — MODOK and Hit Monkey — will continue on as planned.

Animated crossover The Offenders is also unlikely to move forward given that half the combined universe has been scrapped. Still, the character of Howard the Duck has had several cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it's likely he will appear in future projects. Sources say that the decision to scrap two of the four shows was ultimately made by Marvel, not Hulu. Both Disney-owned companies declined comment.

The decision to scrap both series arrives a week after Hulu senior vp scripted originals Craig Erwich was asked during his appearance at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour about the future of Marvel at the streamer. "I have seen quite a few episodes of MODOK, which I’m really excited about," he said of the comedy, whose voice cast was announced earlier this week. "Helstrom, we’re currently in production on. I’ve seen the first four episodes of that as well and I’m really excited about it. It is a definitely a different corner of the Marvel universe in terms of its horror. It’s a really unique take on a horror show and that has a very unique family situation at the center of it. So, we’ll be announcing dates of those soon."

The news comes nearly two months after work on Tigra & Dazzler was paused amid creative differences with Marvel. In December, the entire writing staff was let go from the series after completing multiple scripts and outlines for others. They were 15 weeks into a planned 20-week production cycle. At the time, sources said that a search for a new showrunner was underway as part of a larger creative overhaul. All the work the previous regime did on the series was scrapped.

Picked up in February as part of Hulu and Marvel's Netflix-like four-show-and-a-special universe, Tigra & Dazzler was poised to be the third comedy out of the gate, with Howard the Duck earmarked as the fourth.
The demise of Tigra and Howard the Duck arrives as Marvel TV head Loeb remains with the company as he continues to work on a transition plan as part of his forthcoming exit. Loeb — who steered Marvel into live-action scripted TV originals with ABC's Agents of SHIELD — had been prepping to leave well before the Oct. 15 news that MCU mastermind Feige had been elevated to the role of Marvel's chief creative officer.

With his promotion, Feige — who has overseen Marvel's multibillion-dollar box office dominance — now oversees the creative direction of the company's content creation, including publishing, film, TV and animation. As part of the consolidation, Loeb's Marvel TV and the animation-focused Marvel Family Entertainment have also moved under Feige's Marvel Studios banner. That officially knocks down the wall that had existed between Marvel's film and TV units.

In addition to Hulu's animated comedies, MODOK and Hit Monkey, Loeb's Marvel TV slate now consists of the upcoming final season of Agents of SHIELD and Hulu live-action drama Helstrom. (Hulu's live-action scripted Ghost Rider drama was also scrapped after scoring a straight to series order at the streamer alongside Helstrom.) Hulu announced in November that the third season of drama Runaways would be its last and Marvel TV's other live-action shows — FX's Legion, Freeform's Cloak & Dagger — ended/were canceled last year.

The remainder of Marvel's scripted TV slate consists of MCU live-action spinoffs overseen by Feige's film division. Those series — Loki (starring Tom Hiddleston), WandaVision (with Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen) and Falcon & the Winter Soldier (led by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan) — have not been part of Loeb's TV division. Nor have the second round of Marvel TV series set to launch on Disney+, including What If (animated), Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight.

Tigra and Howard are the latest Marvel TV series to get the ax after being ordered straight to series. They join Loeb's New Warriors (formerly set up at Freeform) and Ghost Rider.

                            • Mark Snow Scoring Josh Boone’s ‘The New Mutants’

Mark Snow (The X-Files, Millennium, Smallville) has composed the original score for the upcoming X-Men spinoff The New Mutants. The film is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga. The horror thriller is set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive. Boone also co-wrote the screenplay with Knate Lee (Kidnap). Simon Kinberg (The Martian, Cinderella), Karen Rosenfelt (The Twilight Saga) and Lauren Shuler Donner (Logan, Deadpool) are producing the project. The movie will also feature additional music by Nate Walcott & Mike Mogis who were originally announced as the film’s composers. The New Mutants is set to be released in theaters nationwide on April 3, 2020 by 20th Century Pictures.

                              • Who in the hell is calling the shots at Marvel?!? The New Warriors relaunch looks to be a bunch of SJW crap piled on top of the most random group of past members. In a trailer where the creators talk about the book, the writer goes into describing new twin characters who are POC. The "typical jock" is a pink haired dude with force field powers, but they only work when he's protecting others. The writer goes into the guy's sister and immediately leads with "She's actually... non binary and goes by "they" and "them." Safespace and Snowflake respectively, yeah... it's THAT bad.

I could go on to tell you how the writer probably never read more than 5 comics in his life, or how "internet gas" somehow plays a part in the origin of new hero Screentime... but just think about that... some editor actually approved 'internet gas' as a plot device. Currently the comic trailer on YouTube has 3.7k likes.... and 171k dislikes.

And if that wasn't enough here comes another new series called Children of the Atom spinning out of the X books. Why do Cyclops, Jean Grey, Archangel, Gambit, and Nightcrawler need sidekicks? Because the ANAD X-Men could only change one character really, and making Iceman gay wasn't enough. Now we got a female Cyclops, a telepath in a luchador mask, a black guy who looks like a mix of Hawkman and Archangel, a black chick who ALSO throws playing cards, and what looks like an Asian or possibly a Spanish teleporter. These 'new' characters though are exciting because the writer has their entire histories and supporting characters already developed and ready to go. One of them is into cosplay. Another is into instagram, and another has a reddit page for the new squad.

The female writer goes on to explain, "there's the same old stuff X-fans expect... supervillains, big fights, etc." Essentially this just seems like an alt version of the team, with the added bonus of modern stereotypes and being written by somebody who doesn't seem to grasp why the X-Men are a great concept.

Neither team really has a straight white male character. They both have an overweight character, they both have at least two African-Americans, as well as other minorities. There's such a thing as honest representation. When Donald Glover wasn't given a shot at auditioning for Peter Parker, fans WANTED a person of color under the mask. And we got Miles Morales. Then there's forced representation where these creators go in with agendas and create characters that nobody asks for or change up existing characters to suit their narratives. The best examples of this are the modern Iceman as well as Iron Heart. Oh and the Kree version of Marvel Boy wants you to know his pronouns are "he" and "him".

The industry needs to look at it's fans to move forward. Hire a few folks who are invested in your IP's and not somebody that heard about them a month ago or watched a couple Marvel Studios flicks.
