4.99$? What the hell?

How many pages will it have? 50? Are the floppies the same price?

I guess I'll wait to get this in trade because I've only read Sandman through vol. 3. I need to catch up first.

I'll probably get both. Maybe. I don't know. I want to read it. Right NOW!!! Maybe I'll pirate the floppies and just buy the trade? I need this!

The next comic shop that still has US floppies is in Düsseldorf which is like an hours drive away. Fuck this shit!

Well, it's not a matter of which I want to have. If I were caught up with the story it would be the floppies, but I assume there's a lot of continuity I need first.

Outside of the last Volume of Sandman, any Sandman graphic novel can be read in any order. and this one is a prequel to the first graphic novel. So Dive right in.

Oh, it's a prequel? I haven't read much about it. Maybe I'll pick it up, then. I have noticed that the old stories are pretty independent.

I read the first issue, and I'm trade waiting.

I loved the art and the story, but fuck these ads man. Why didn't they put the ads in the back like they've done with Williams previous work?

It was cool to see the Corinthian, creepy son a bitch.

Seriously??!? Really?!?

I might be playing Monday morning quarterback here, but MAYBE DC could have had a few issues actually in the can before they solicited this? It isn't like it's late at the END of the series, this is already falling apart by the second issue.

What an embarrassment.

Indeed it is. This was supposed to be the thing that rekindled my love for comics, not reinforced my growing disdain for the hobby.

Well in their defense they did announce the project over a year beforehand and then went the additional step of inserting an extra month between issues. That being said they do deserve their share of the blame, but I'm gunna say Gaiman and Willams get an equal share as well.

Have they said who the holdup is? I'd hate to think it was Gaiman. Back when Sandman was published, it was hardly ever late for most of its run.

Williams' art is SO gorgeous, my natural inclination is to blame him for taking so long. Sigh...I just don't know who to direct my nerd rage against!!!

I'm not saying they should hurry the project, they should just announce a proper release cycle. If this title will only be released quarterly I'm fine with that, as long as the quality is great.
But they're just postponing all issues although they should already know that they could never keep their release dates because they always know this beforehand as they get previews etc from writers and artists, don't they?.

This is unprofessional by DC/Vertigo.

What DC SHOULD do, is say, hey, this is going to take longer to get to fans than we thought and we apologize. We're cancelling all current solicitations to give our creators time to get caught up and ahead. Later this year we will resolicit #2, #3 and so on. We promise it will be worth the wait, and at the same time we want to keep our promises to retailers who will be stocking this mini series on their shelves.

Boom, crisis solved. There's no real momentum happening here anymore to worry about losing anyway.

JH Williams III Talks To Bleeding Cool About Sandman Overture
Quote:
At the talk, Williams had a lot of interesting things to say about the internal workings of Overture such as the fact that it takes him roughly one week to do a double page spread for Sandman, and that level of quality is not something he or Neil are willing to compromise.

No wonder his art is so good. A entire WEEK to do a double page spread? I guess it had better be amazing.

I'm a bit baffled by the fact that, with something like this where they KNOW going in that it is going to take months to produce a single issue, they don't wait until they have at least a couple issues completely done before they start soliciting it.

Once the HC or TPB is out nobody will care if the book is late.

Yeah, completely unprofessional by DC.

Well that's true. I'm still angry that I couldn't just wait for the trade.
