...I feel that if I grow any type of facial hair, I'll appear rebellious or militant, and that's not the image to project when you're one of the few minorities working for the company.

How about if you grew an afro and flashed the Black Power sign each morning? Because that would be pretty cool. I mean I could dig it.

The only white guys that look alright with that are cops and firefighters. Everyone else looks like a gay porn star.

Years ago, I worked for a firm that had a Black dude working in the IT department. He had a gigantic afro like Questlove from the Roots. Well, one Monday, he came in with cornrows, and someone must have said something to him because the very next day, he had the afro again. I asked him, "What happened to the rows, man?" He replied with a whisper, "Too ethnic."

MAN I wanted a beard so bad back then. Eventually I managed to get one, actually not too bad coverage. Ironically about a year later I decided I preferred looking clean shaven, at least for now and now it's a fight to get rid of any stubble, whilst back then it was a fight to get any of it to show up...how times change
