"Say it with respect, Razor." It wasn't Razor's utterly ineffectual reply that he honed in on but a perceived tone on his title?

Just curious, but what would you have done to make it better?

I wouldn't have had the Anti Monitor be an android creation of the Maltusians/Oans. Talk about missing the point. With one hastily done origin they took away what made the Anti Monitor an interesting villain in the first place. He was never an android.

Whatever. The rest of the episode was dipped in gold so I'll deal with it.

The Anti-Monitor's new origin worked fine, but now his name just doesn't make sense. (Unless we discover later that there is a Monitor on this show, which is certainly possible. I've got a theory about that, but I need to flesh it out in my review.)

Otherwise, great ep; a few serious plot problems, but I think they were deliberate to make the episode flow better and/or ratchet up the tension.

I just think his origin was short, sweet, and worked for the show.

Not cheapen the role of the freaking Anti-Monitor by turning it into some rogue Guardian creation, a role already taken by the Manhunters since their background during the Red Lantern arc. The A-M represented an overwhelmingly powerful outside force that validated the presence of the Corps. With this origin, they might as well have cast the Manhunter Highmaster for the main antagonist instead. Or at least devote an episode revealing the Guardian connection and disavowing the other-dimensional origin put out in "Steam Lantern". "Blue Hope" showed Hal's distrust of the Guardians, something that should elicit a stronger reaction than the none reaction seen w/ the Science Director's reveal. Instead, this notable element was stifled amid the RAya ship and Red Lantern diplomacy.

So...after not giving the show a proper try...(I think I tried to watch the premiere when it first aired) and feeling not at all as enthused by the GL comics as I once was but still craving some GL goodness...I gave it a shot and I watched The New Guy episode today and you know what? I was pleasantly surprised I dig it. Now to catch up on this series!

That's a good point. Another downside to his new origin is that it makes the GotU even stupider for making the Manhunters. If they already saw how wrong Krona was in making a "perfect" android, you'd think we wouldn't try the same basic thing!

True, but if that's the case, then we wouldn't have Aya, either. They would've never started that project in the first place.

The AM is a robot. And there's no Monitor. Now Qward, or the moons of Qward and Oa with the dar and light patch that served as birthing places for the two godlike monitors. Just a big robot. Superman fights big robots, why not call him in? He can punch it to pieces. And what is he monitoring? Or anti monitoring? Why not just call him supermanhunter? Or Godhunter? Or MechaGalactus?

This is a children's show, and it's not the comics. Try to remember that.

Great episode! Although the AM's origin was kind of hokey, it works for the show; it's nothing too complicated for kids to digest. The ending was sad with Aya being nearly vaporized, but I'm sure she'll be back. Now, I'm eagerly waiting for that Guardian to come in contact with the AM and become Scar.

EDIT: Did anyone else think the episode ended kind of abruptly?

Remember that this show appeals to a lot of ages and covers more content than "kid's stuff" like love affairs and death, the latter since the first few minutes of episode 1. And while this medium is not the comic books, the vast majority of its content - characters, groups, abilities, settings - is derived from the books and is open to criticism as well as the praise it has received.

Yep. I was surprised when it said "and now, a DC short."

I wonder if they'll ever connect Aya to the Alpha Lanterns later on.

I haven't seen it anywhere officially, but is the show ending after the 26th episode, or are they ending it earlier than that?

I believe there are 3 more episodes left to finish the season. The names of the episodes are: Babel, Love is a battlefield, and the last one is called Larfleeze.

Makes the 13 episode dvd sound pretty silly now if there are only a handful of episodes NOT on it. And even more unlikely that the last few will be collected.

It's cold in space, and a long journey. I'm sure the three of them had her doing her best circus seal impersonation 3 times a week. You'd really HAVE to.

Well today's episode was number 20 and there are 26, so if my math is correct there is still 6 left.

And I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!
