Well, Simpsons and Family Guy both have a lot of merchandising, even if it isn't primarily toys (though the upcoming line of Simpsons collectible minifigs from LEGO certainly fits that bill).

They can use that toy excuse all they want but it is a bunch of crap. Batman Begins toys did poorly and we saw sequal to that movie, and Man Of Steel Toys are doing pretty awful to but we are still seeing a sequal. WB is back to Giving Green Lantern the half hearted treatment. I won't be supprised if they go back to using John Stewart to try to look more diverse.

I don't think anybody is pretending that the GL movie isn't getting a sequel because of anything having to do with toy sales. It isn't getting a sequel because it did poorly at the box office.

Movies don't get sequels based on how well the toys sell (usually...I'd be willing to believe there have been exceptions to that. I know I suspected that was why Cars got a sequel, no matter how they deny it). But apparently that IS a big factor in animated TV series. Or so I hear. It makes a bit of sense, I suppose. TV series can be expensive to produce, so you need to be making the money back somehow, and licensed products is a good way to go, I guess.

Cars also popped into mind when you said that. And now we're getting Planes.

To cancel a show because it dose not have a toy line seems pretty silly on the whole. I give you phineas and Ferb. They had been crazy popular for a while before they got toys. Or even Adventure Time, That had been on the air for a while before we saw toys for that.

My theroy, is that Mattel is just not intrested in anyone other then Superman and Batman. Wich is a good stratgey just look at how well it did for Kenner.

As far as the movie goes they spent over 400 million dollars on that movie,It had no chance of making back what was spent on it. DC/WB made that shit sandwich, they should have to eat it.

Make a new Green Lantern Movie, or Cartoon but be realstic on how much it can earn back, and adjust costs acordingly.

Carlin said they always go with superman and batman because they know that those markets work! Thats also why we get so many animated movies based on them.

That number is ridiculous. The movie cost $200 million. The purported $200 million dollar marketing campaign has never been confirmed by anyone official. Nor is it figured into any of the profitable Marvel or other comic blockbusters. No one adds the marketing budget in the estimation of cost-profit unless it's a flop.

You are right space cop I don't have an "Offical" quote. But it is no secret that an ubsurd amont of money was spent. Due to a full on Glowing CGI suit and a move that had almost every shot being mixed with special effects. Then they went back and redid a whole bunch of shots from what I have herd.So though we cannot say what the exact dollar amount is you could Imagine it had to be pretty huge.

Also it is no secret that WB wanted GL to be the new franchise, due to the end of the Harry Potter Saga. That may be why they were willing to put up such money. I can't really say. However I believe it was more due to the sucess of the Dark Night that they opened the wallet a little bigger. The expectations for Green Lantern was way to high.

As for toys the Batman line was one of the nails in the Coffin of Kenner.

Yeah, I don't doubt that they spent too much in the wrong areas.

I've been waiting to buy it until they released a single edition.
Ironically, I don't know if I want it on Blu-ray. I have blu-ray and I'm sure it would look/sound cool on it, but I like to watch half hour cartoons right before bed and my BD player isn't in my bedroom.
If it were only one of those BD/DVD combos that would seal the deal, but I guess they don't do them for series.

Fine news, indeed. Never thought this would happen, but I'll gladly replace my DVDs with this.

572 minutes / 24 episodes = approx. 24 minutes per episode. So it sounds about right.

And it's a two disc set. They probably just mimicked what was on the dvds and threw both discs in.
