The best systems were the ones that didn't make things overly complicated. Like FF IX. Take this equipment, learn this ability, equip something else.
It was a variant of the materia system of course.

Having said that - I just love the job system of FF V (which is an advanced version of the FF III job system) because you can just do anything with it.

To be perfectly honest, my favorite system of all Final Fantasy episodes has got to be the experience system from Final Fantasy II. Heal someone often enough, and you get better at healing. Swing your broadsword often enough, and you get better at splitting skulls. The Elder Scrolls games use a variation of this system. And Final Fantasy doesn't. Weird.

Yeah, I've always preferred those experience systems as well, because they make the most sense. Though I think the more traditional method works as well. As you're probably going to level your skills to match your play style anyway. Why would you go through the game up to a point, killing things with a sword but level up your magic?

My personal favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics. Great battle system with an incredibly deep story and excellent characters.

My second favorite is probably VII, although I think the game takes a hit in quality after you leave Midgar. I do really enjoy the first Junon segment, though. That game does big cities incredibly well.

I have a lot of love for VI and IV, too.

So....I just did the Northern Crater segment and basically learned more about Cloud...

Let's just say I said holy crap a lot and shit my pants when the monsters showed up.

I am so in love with Final Fantasy VII.

So I've finished disc 2 and on to disc 3.

Time to finish this game soon.

I enjoyed VII, but VIII has to be my favorite. "Eyes on Me" will always have a soft spot in my heart. I also appreciated the Laguna story.

IX, I actually didn't like. X I did, but I agreen that X-2 was derivative trash. XII was...well, not memorable. Maybe I got too good at the Gambit system, that it felt like the game was playing itself. XIII I've played through, but I've hit the point where I'm not really sure WHY I completed 1 and 2.

IV was the one that "got me hooked".

Won't finish disc 1 until Aerith is fully levelled up to 99. This time it'll be perfect.

But what's the point of doing that when she dies in the end?

I finally did it, I ended Sepiroth.

Final Fantasy VII is truly the masterpiece that people say it is.

I'm working my way through IV on the DS. The next one I will play is the X/X-2 HD collection. It not that then most likely VI.

Hell yeah it is. One of those few things in life that actually is as good as everyone says it is. On of my top 5 favourite pieces of media of all time. Glad you enjoyed it

So I'm making good progress in Final Fantasy IV and the bosses really hit hard in the DS version, plus I can't believe I lost Yang and Cid within the span of minutes.

I know, it's a shame those two die so early.

We need to play the Virtual Console version. Or the GBA port.

Was at GameStop a little while ago, clerk showed me the trailer for XIII-3, or whatever it is coming out soon.

Gotta say, I'm tempted by the SOLDIER/Buster Sword outfit, the general outfit customization in general, and the gameplay doesn't look too shabby.

I'll wait until it's no more than $30, I think.

So I'm playing the HD version of FF X...and I honestly can't see where all the hate comes from. Grant it I haven't beaten the game but I am having a good time with this one.

I'm with you on that. Not everyone liked Tidus, which I can see, though I didn't have the problems other people did. It had an interesting world that was centered around the villain. It was so unconventional which was what I liked most.

I've always liked the game, I clocked about 120 hours+ on my ps2 back in the days.
I cannot understand the argument, that this game has no towns because it's a post-apocalyptic world, Yuna is on a pilgrimage and there are a few towns so it all makes sense.

With the Al-Bhed language you even have an insentive to replay the game several times.

The only thing I somewhat grudge about is the fact, that Auron states several times that this is Tidus story when in fact it is Yuna's story. But that's just nitpicking.
Oh and I cannot choose japanese audio. The dub is somewhat stiff. .hack/ let me choose japanese audio with subtitles, that was perfect!

My favorite Final Fantasy is a tie between VI and IX, because the games are just so addicting for me. I'm also a fan of VII, especially since I've finally played it through more (though I haven't finished it yet).

I've played all the games in the main series save for XI, XIII (which I heard is horseshit), and XIV (which I've been told is even worse). I knew that Square was going downhill, when Nomura had this obsession and belief that Lightning was going to be the next Cloud, so they made two sequels to XIII just to make that point clear. Didn't pan out as well as Toriyama and co thought it would.

Akira Toriyama's the Dragon Quest guy. You mean Tetsuya Nomura.

FFXII is not horseshit at all. It's an excellent game; give it a whirl.
