If it's got Pleasance in it, I'm there. I was turned off by the 90s Halloween stuff in general. Big time. I ended up with the feeling that, after V, the series should have just quit until Zombie.

I can do without V and VI, and I was definitely not a fan of the Zombie's films.

Resurrection was a great comedy though. Busta Rhymes Vs. Michael Myers, classic.

Honestly, of the handful of Carpenter films I've seen thus far (mostly on Dave ans SC's recommendations) I like the Thing the best, although Halloween will always be acknowledged as a miracle cornerstone of the genre.

Hey Dave, I just remembered: the Wednesday before last, I bought some Shadows over Innistrad boosters, part of recent Magic: The Gathering sets, and one of the cards is a two-sided beauty I was lucky enough to receive.

If you consider yourself a Thing fan, you really do need to add this to your collection.

It's not expensive, and you can probably find foil versions for relatively cheap.

Also, just got back from the theater with my dad (we saw WarCraft, review forthcoming). One preview was for The Shallows, which looks like a shark-themed edition of Black Water. I'll more likely see that than another Jason Bourne or Independence Day sequel.

Yeah, my ranking of BTiLC and The Thing higher is no slight on Halloween, which I love and have seen many, many times. I just honestly enjoy the others more.

I have all of the Dark Horse Comics stories on The Thing, EXCEPT a digital only short story titled "The Northman Nightmare" where Vikings encounter the organism. Cool story, but it pisses me off that there isn't a physical copy to own.

Not to sound that I'm pestering you, but did you see my "Thing in the Ice" post above, Dave, or did the board load past it? It is a tribute to the original, and with your collection as comprehensive as it is, might as well add that.

Ugh, that film...

Good thing it's short, because it's a weaksauce entry.

Still better than Resurrection, which isn't saying much, but . . .

I saw Resurrection once about 10 years ago

It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Are those like magic the gathering cards? And the cards mimic the ability of the Thing organism?

Here's my post from earlier:

It's not expensive, and you can probably find foil versions for relatively cheap.

It transforms, but it just turns from an encased monster into an active one, not into other people, and when transformed forces non-Horror (non-monster cards of the "Horror" type) off the table.

I found out about the card and unwrapped one myself, which is why I wanted to let you know something like it existed, for your collection to have another cool item based on the legendary creature.

I fully admit I'm not a gamer, so bear with me as I ask questions here- if you are playing as Jason, there doesn't seem to be much of a challenge. He's got this "sonar" to speak of, he obviously towers in strength against all the campers, and if you play as a camper, you're done for anyways. So where's the challenge?

Is there a boss fight with someone like Tina from VII or Tommy Jarvis? How can Jason be beaten? Do the same rules of sex and drugs apply to the game like they do to the movies?

It's a group of players versus another player. Challenge is either to stay alive or to kill the little rats.

It's basically a horror film version of Evolve, which was several "hunter" players against a single "monster" player.

Not being a gamer, I do not know what Evolve is.

So this is an online game where you have several different people playing at once?

It connects online, yes, so that seven or so people aren't all in one room together.

James Rolfe's plans for Monster Madness 10 (final "marathon"), and MM's future

I'm hoping for 2017 and beyond he does just a couple a week, to balance his life with our shared passion. And I hope the series is released for private ownership, like with AVGN.

Very much like the upcoming Friday the 13th game, but with original characters.
