Is it possible to knock it out the park but not be perfect? That's my feeling with issue one. There's a whole lot to enjoy but not quite enough to love. Definitely 4 stars though.

It had that Morrison feeling at the start where I felt like I wasn't getting the whole picture, but it wasn't as cryptic as his big event books.

I liked the little touches of alienness in the way different species talked and such.

There is definitely a Top 10 feel to what they are doing here. I mean that as a compliment.

I completely agree. The thing is that to showcase the mundane everyday work of a space cop, you can't be too exciting off the bat. Which is why the alien idiots Hal and the other Lanterns fight this issue are just boring randos.

Yeah, but it allowed for that fun bit with the passing motorists.

Spoiler-filled review by the Beat:
http://www.comicsbeat.com/dc-round-u...back-to-party/

Quote:
As we’ve seen through the Batman: Damned kerfuffle, characters like Hal Jordan, Diana Troy, and Bruce Wayne need to be– to a greater or lesser extent– broad. If you make them too specific or do things that are too polarizing with them, you risk alienating a part of your audience, thus reducing your potential for lunchbox sales. However, when you’re telling a story, not being able to grow or change is basically the worst restriction you can impose on a creative team. So what do you do if you’re relaunching Green Lantern? Well– why not make Hal as broad a character as possible and then just build A LOT of weird specific crazy stuff around him?

I had no idea that was supposed to be Eve Doremus. Super cool.

It should be Len Lewis, short for Leonard.

I thought the Bizzaro GL was the Yellow Lantern getting dissected by the Controllers in the end?

And didn't Morrison create or recreate half of these characters during his expansion of the Multiverse in Multiversity? He's not researching shit, just going through some of his old notes... LOL

That's still more research than any GL writer has done since Steve Englehart. We know the editors don't bother with research, so I'm thankful whenever a writer does.

Yes I love those deep references, part of the reason why taking on a legacy character can be so much fun.
