My vote is for Romero's the Night of the Living Dead movie series. Pound for pound the initial quadrilogy (Night, Dawn, Day, Land) is classic and awesome and look at everything they inspired. Even the latest two aren't that bad, "Diary" and "Survival."

I’ll vote for Jason because it’s my favorite of the horror franchises and does have amazing staying power. Strictly speaking, though, Evil Dead is the only one on the list that I’d say I love every entry. But I think of it as more of a trilogy that happened to get a remake too.

I haven't watched a lot of those, but the best by far that I've seen are George Romero's Living Dead movies.

Oh I'm Jason all the way. Evil Dead would be my number 2.

For me a nightmare on elm street. I remember as a kid the news and newspapers covered a funeral for Freddy when promoting freddy's dead. As great the others are Freddy is pop culture. Unless i missed something or wasnt aware no other horror icon got covered like that during that time

^There’s a ton of pre-development scripts and specs and a bunch of ideas floated for a sequel. They cover a lot of it in Crystal Lake Memories.
I enjoy FvJ. It’s not perfect, but it’s a fun watch. People say it’s essentially a Freddy movie with Jason in it and that’s true because Freddy is the force of change (I don’t know how it could be otherwise when Jason is mute) and it takes place much more in Springwood than Crystal Lake. Yet Jason wins the body count by landslide (at something like 14 to 1).

I watched that RLM YouTube video on parts 4 and 6 the other night too. Pretty entertaining. I'm just a sucker for series reviews on old horror franchises I like.

Roger Ebert said Dawn of the Dead was the greatest horror movie ever made. I agree with that, and I rate Night of the Living Dead a close second.
Beneath the sheer terror of George Romero's Living Dead movies lurks a wry and stinging social commentary that was the product of a first-rate intellect. Unlike the people who copy him and get rich by doing it, Romero was an original. Last edited by Trey Strain; 11-29-2020 at 11:55 PM. |

I enjoy the Alien franchise more than any of the other choices. However, I'm not sure that I could say that it would be the best for everyone. It doesn't have the stomach-churning visuals of Texas Chainsaw Massacre nor does it deal with the deep spiritual questions as the Exorcist.
