Well it should be pointed out that this movie originally had Legion from the Emerald Dawn story as the main villain. But that was altered as the script progressed and more of Geoff Johns work was integrated into the project. Krona is also a newer addition as well.

Somewhere here on the board is a link to that original first draft script that was leaked a couple of years ago. I have read it and I was impressed. They even included Alan Scott in that version as the secret government agent who ends up working with Hal. I think he has been replaced in the actual movie by Amanda Waller.
