Default A dumb complaint about the 52 Meme

So I'm watching the Vixen CW preview thing and one of the characters says

"That's the $52 Million question"

That's not a phrase. That's not like... a thing... that people say.

There was a game show many decades ago called "The $64,000 Question" and THAT'S a thing people still say.

So... I guess really... my dumb complain is this.

WE GET IT DC. You like 52 for some reason. There was that dumb series "52", The New 52, The Multiversity limits itself to 52 for some insanely stupid reason... I'm sure there are other "52" occurrences in DC/WB media that I'm just forgetting or not aware of.

I don't get it but I suspect it's something really really dumb and I'm just fucking... ENOUGH ALREADY.

Your post count is 8,327.

Divided by 160, that's...52.

You're part of the problem, Naysay.

I have to agree with Naysay. Enough with the 52 already. It was a bad idea DC get over it and stop beating a dead horse.

Yea everything I see one of their "5.2 reasons we're excited for blah" blog posts I just roll my eyes.

At least they're getting rid of the whole only 52 Earths in the multiverse thing.

Are they? Didn't I just read some more bullshit from noted bullshit artist Grant Morrison about them keeping the 52 worlds?

Maybe I misread...

He's doing the opposite:

SDCC: DC ENTERTAINMENT -- GRANT MORRISON: THE MULTIVERSITY AND BEYOND PANEL
Quote:
"Multiversity Too isn'twhat you think it is. It's not a follow-up," Morrison explained. "All these years since 1987 I've been trying to get the Multiverse back." However, it wasn't just a confined Multiverse. Morrison said he wanted to bring back the idea of an infinite Multiverse. This series of graphic novels plays in that infinite.

"If you imagine that Multiverse map is one bubble of 52 universes," he said. "There are more bubbles of 50 or 100 universes."

Just curious- was the 52 universes thing in effect before or after GL Rebirth?

After, I believe. It was when DC decided to remove all the alternate versions of worlds (including Aztec Batman vs Aztec Superman) in Infinite Crisis that the 52 limit was applied.

Like the Emotional Spectrum before it, it was a Geoff Johns creation that had a glimmer of intrigue but wound up ruining everything by being stupid.

Yeah, the number 52 as significant to the DCU started with buildup for the 52 series and One Year Later story in all the titles. That was early into vol. 4 of GL (i.e., well after Rebirth and the reintro of Hal and the GLC).
