  • Richard Zanuck, legendary Hollywood producer, dies at 77

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,2710294.story

Richard D. Zanuck, one of the most legendary and influential figures in the history of the movie business, died Friday morning at age 77.

Zanuck had a huge influence on Hollywood and the culture at large, first as the head of 20th Century Fox and, for the past four decades, as a film producer.

On his watch, Fox released era-defining classics such as “The Sound of Music,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “MASH.”

As a producer, Zanuck, who was the son of Darryl Zanuck, the first chief of Fox, continued a remarkable run; he was a driving force on movies such as “Jaws,” "Cocoon,” and “Driving Miss Daisy.”

In recent years, he had collaborated frequently with Tim Burton, producing about a half-dozen of the auteur's movies, including the recently released "Dark Shadows."

A complete obit will follow at latimes.com/obituaries and other posts will be coming shortly on Movies Now.

Oh no! Another legend taken from us. Some of you guys might not be familiar with him, but this man was responsible for helping to bring several legendary movies to the big screen.

He was prominently featured in all the Jaws commentaries and retrospectives, and I loved listening to his stories. Be at peace, sir.

This IS a huge loss. Think of all the movies from 20th Century Fox that have come out from the 60s on that we all love. Then realize he had a finger in the pie of a LOT of them.

Planet Of The Apes is a perfect example.

Zanuck was such a champion of Burton's work that I'm hoping that history doesn't repeat itself ala James Whale getting lost in the shuffle after the Laemles were 'booted' out of Universal.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Zanuck...you were a true mogul.
