I saw this last night and God DAMN this movie was great!!! It far exceeded my expectations and (IMO) surpassed Rise. The story held up and never bored me, the motivations of all of the characters was believable; they did a great job of making you sympathize with both the humans and apes needs. The idea that these two races COULD work things out and be friends and allies, but just keep missing the chance because unforeseen events keep playing out keeping that from happening is tragic and well played out.
I also bought into everything the characters were doing. Even when a character did something questionable, I could see that happening in real life out of fear or desperation.
The characters were all well done. I found the humans more interesting and was more sympathetic to them than I planned on being, but the apes naturally stole the show. The CGI is SO good at this point that it's just believable. I look back at CGI from 10 to 15 years ago and it's like night and day. They are getting better at not just making characters that look real with believable, hair, skin, texture and depth, but they don't look superimposed INTO a shot anymore. They looked like they were really there, whether it be in a forrest or inside of buildings.
The story worked for me from beginning to end. It just came out so I won't put any spoilers yet, but it definitely sets up for a third movie (which is currently slated for July 2016). This reboot has been to the Apes franchise what Daniel Craig's reboots have been to the Bond franchise...totally worth it.
