I talked to someone in Libya today, and he told me that the price of gas there is 2 cents a liter. A gallon is roughly 4 liter, and the US Dollar is equal to 1.2 Libyan Dinars. After doing some basic math, the price of a gallon of gas comes out to be less than a dime.

So? You're forgetting exportation, American distribution, and the price of fear. On a semi-related note... I find it interesting, sad, and funny that the Alaskan Governor is now presenting a law suit against the federal government for their non-allowance to drill her state for its natural resources and fossil fuels as she, and the people of her state, wishes to do.Do good. Be well. Make happy.

Price of gas where I am hit $1.50 a litre today.
Keep in mind, at least 40% of that is simply tax from the Government, to pay down depts that haven't existed in twenty years. The kicker? The Tax is also Taxed

Hell, Saudi Arabia even said North America is paying too much for fuel, and we are.
But yes, Parry is also correct.

While I was in Kuwait last year, it is about 70 cents a gallon for gas there. Odd it isn't cheaper like Libia.
It's like a bad dream and the oil companies said F it, let's just go nuts and see how high we can go...

The Federal Goverment only has the powers granted to it by the consitution, all other powers are reserved to the states and people
*looks a Constitution

Well we know why the US govt isn't trying to hard to help with the price of gas, it's because a majority have ties to the oil companies... but that aside, if what I heard is correct, and I saw this on tv; the US gets 2/3rds of it's oil from the US... We have a stockpile of crude oil, if I remember right it was started because of the oil crisis of the 70s, but the current administration doesn't want to use it... it's too bad the politicos have stopped listening to the common people and started listening to big businesses."Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein

The last figures I heard break it down like this.
Oil Company makes 4% per gallon
Federal Goverment makes 15% per Gallon
The rest is split between the shop owner and the state and local goverments. In some cases the state gets the bigger chunck, in New York it's 60 cents per gallon.

I don't know about the Store Owners getting that big a cut of it. Up here at least, they make shit all. There was a time they could buy the gas, then sell it, and if it went up bonus for them. Now, at least with Shell, the owners are paid a salary, or they get profits from the In-Store stuff they sell. Of course people buy less In-Store stuff when the price of gas is so high.
I dunno, back when I worked as a gas-jockey with Shell, they releases a little pie graph of who made what off the gas. Store owners got a very small chunk of that pie.

In the US, in theory, anyone (who is of age, mentally competent, and doesn't have a criminal record) can run for political office. In reality however, it costs millions of dollars to finance a campaign, and therefore to run for office you have to either be rich, or be backed by someone who is rich. The result is a government that is of the rich, for the rich.Originally posted by Chicago_GL View PostWell we know why the US govt isn't trying to hard to help with the price of gas, it's because a majority have ties to the oil companies... but that aside, if what I heard is correct, and I saw this on tv; the US gets 2/3rds of it's oil from the US...
