Awesome articulate thorough blog as usual. I can't see how you can do it and incorporate the photos too. You're better than me!

You know I've started hearing and reading about Cosplay harassment. Little crews coming up and asking really inappropriate questions like "Does your cosplaying help you get laid?" etc. Bleeding Cool ran an article on it ... ... that's some terrible shit. Next time Sylent just knock'em out!

I saw the Bad Robot too! That was awesome!

I hear you about the escalators. The worse part was often they were not on so you would have to use them like steps!

So it does appear it was fairly last minute to go. You still should have posted it. I would really have loved to catch up. Especially because I was solo this time!! Usually at WC or SDCC I'm with my brother in-law, buddy or occasionally my daughters so it's much harder because every minute I'm getting pulled to go here or there but this was the one time I was just chilling, roaming and meeting line buddies and such. Next time!

This year was crazy. Didn't enjoy it as much as i was sick and shit, but yeah that team dynamic... boom, works every time. And yer right, when you hit the convention with friends, it def makes it that much more memorable. ( who else we gonna vent to as sdcc personnel shouts at us to keep walkin'... ) We may not have been kicked out this year, lol.. but it was still another year. Till next time... if that even happens.

The lighting is very poor in this center. When you come in from a bright, Spring day, it takes a while for your eyes to adjust to the darkness.

    SacAnime 2012

Thanks for the compliment! My grasp of the English language seems to worsen with each con. I always proofread after publishing and discover a myriad of typos and misspellings. Must be old age.

SacAnime. LOL! I didn't even think of that.

You know, I think Anime and Rave-House music go hand-in-hand. Every Anime show I've been to featured heart-pounding, headache-inducing House music. *shrugs* There were actually two DJ's at this event: one in the front and another out by the Courtyard.

For the Necomini ears, there's some sensor box that is supposed monitor your brainwaves (or something), which causes the ears to respond. Before I took that babe's photo, she was explaining how they worked. They droop, perk up, spin around and make other slight movements. It's pretty cool, but not for the price.

If they were $20, I would have bought one for my wife, but at $110, they can keep em'.

They didn't have a 2XL Han Solo shirt, otherwise I would have gotten one. I'm a big guy AND I like to wear my clothing extra baggy... and cotton shirts shrink after washing.

Yeah, I knew Jennifer did some other voice work, but since this is primarily a comic book forum, I listed accomplishments that people here would recognize. During her panel, it was pretty much a Q&A session so people requested her to do various voices and she happily obliged. She even did voices that strains her vocal cords. Jennifer was way cool. I should have asked her to tell me something provocative in her Giganta voice so I could have recorded it.

About that creeper photographer, the guy didn't have a press pass or any professional equipment (check the photo) so that leads me to believe that he's just some pedo that paints the ceilings at home as he drools over his photos. Just look at the tiny camera he's using.

Don't hate on Deadpool. Well, THIS Deadpool. It's open season on the guy from "Great Brittish."

The show was okay, but at the very least, I picked up an Ultraman Shadow figure. The guy was overcharging for it, but at least I didn't have to get it on eBay and pay for shipping. While in the Hall, I found $8 on the floor so that made the price of the figure a bit less painful.

First thought: Horrible name with a sad, disgusting implication... Anyway, moving on.

Eh, the cars do nothing for me and the House music just sounds annoying reading it...

LOL Yes, Pimp Mario and his HOOOOOOOOOO Train win cosplay.

Those ears respond... how? What, are they supposed to calm you or something? I know I wouldn't bother with those things even if they did decrease stress (BTW, Sad Photo-Bomber is Sad).

You mean you DIDN'T buy the Han Solo "Thug Life" shirt?!?! I am disappoint... *smh*

Not a bad panel, all things considered. Johnny and Laura, who looks cute even through the shitty photo, aren't too bad. That does suck, tho, about no photos with fans... And also, you missed that Jennifer Hale was Bastilla from KotOR and FemShep from Mass Effect. Pretty notable roles to overlook, bro.

Cosplayers, while a great part of any con, are even more significant at anime cons, or so I'm lead to believe. Not surprised it was an entertaining show with them around. And no, I won't ever understand the MLP fascination either, and I'm the supposed demographic it reaches. GREAT superhero cosplays (Superboy let himself go a little bit in that first pick, tho) all-around.

    Mm-hm, right, "some guys" hypnotized...

That photographer either is a professional and just wanted quality pics, or he really does go home and "take care of business"... or both.

(But, seriously, fuck you. GO PATS! )

Sounds like a mediocre con, but, as always, your coverage is impeccable. Then again, I'm not quite an anime fan, so...

    Still, great blog.

Man, that's crazy! I can see how you would be upset and I empathize with you. I too would be upset if someone jumped the shark like that causing my exile, sort of. I would write into Hasbro and let them know of the experience. At worst, they'll give you the obligatory "Sorry for your inconvenience" response, but at best you might get a sweet discount on furture purchases. It might be worth your time.

About the gun, I'm starting to think it's more trouble than it's worth. I didn't mention the incident at the airport because it was unrelated to the SDCC. Well, they apparently changed the check-in procedure for firearms, which I was not privy to. I fly maybe 3-5 times a year and only bring the pistol for the SDCC which is once a year. Anyway, the girl at the counter was incredibly rude and condescending. She was very attractive, but wearing FAR too much make-up; she kind of looked like a pissed off porn star that didn't swallow enough. At any rate, she copped an attitude when I tried checking in the gun because the form now goes on the outside instead of the inside with the firearm. Maybe I was supposed to know this through osmosis or telepathy. I was in a really good mood this day and smiled during the entire incident which seemed to infuriate her further. Kill them with kindness. I was glad my luggage showed up in San Diego after this.

Thanks for the compliment on the blog! I tried to keep it as family-friendly as I could by not including too many expletives. I posted it on FB and have family and kids that read my posts. Don't want to look like a foul-mouthed trucker.

Fun entertaining read Sylent. Good stuff homey! I was lmao about your 3 pet peeves! I actually had to stop and read it to my wife and oldest daughter. They got a kick out of too!

It's too bad though that you had to deal with that security guard. It really sucks. We're there to have fun and enjoy and it just takes the whole life out of it when you have to deal with an overzealous ass who just ruins the moment.

I never shared on this board openly but I mentioned I had a little issue with a Hasbro employee that just killed my Sunday afternoon for a few hours. Thank God it was Sunday and I was done, but it had me seething! Long story short, I had bought a couple of the Star Wars Secret Chamber SDCC exclusives and they're huge and when I got to the car realized there was no room for them accounting for the passangers all the other items. So knowing there are no returns, I figured I'd just sell it to someone in line at cost. I wasn't scalping it, trying to profit off out, this was a move out of necessity so in my mind not a bad or negative or big deal. In retrospect I realized that was a bit naive to do that even with the noblest intention. Anyways, I'm quickly able to find someone who is happy to do me the favor and buy it from me. Well this older Hasbro lady employee comes up and literally yanks my lanyard and pulls my badge out of the holder, hands it to a security guy and tells him to escort me out of the con! I'm like for what? She's like you're selling in my booth! I start to explain the situation and she wants no part and tells the security guy to take me. The security guy ask me to walk with him and I explain to him what's up and he is totally cool and says no worries and apologizes to me and says as soon as we get out of her/the booth's view I'm going to hand you back the badge and you're all set. He says just do me a favor and avoid the Hasbro booth. I thank him and when we get clear of the booth he does as he says and I'm totally good. No real loss, minus me being pissed off. After I calm down I do realize it was a little short minded and even a bit stupid to sell in the booth, I get it, but that lady has no business or right to come at me like that. She could have just come up and told me you can't sell here or simiar vs just just jumping all over me. There were no signs that you could not sell, though I agree common sense counts but hey even the best of us lose the big picture for a moment. So I was considering going back and letting her have it but I didn't want to get the cool security guy in trouble since he was suppose to escort me out. Then I thought of filing a formal complaint with Hasbro ... and I'm still considering it ... but then I think I'm too old for this and I should forgive and forget. Maybe next year if she's there I can just kindly and productively mention what occured and how I felt. I want to believe if she knew exactly why and what I was doing she would have been much nicer and understanding. I'm sure she had been dealing with all these scalpers all weekend and presumed me to be one and was just so tired of it all. day I think I should call/email Hasbro to complain, the next I'm like just let it go and give her the benefit of the doubt. No real damage was done ... a little frustration, embarassment ... but nothing too bad right?

Plus, I guess if you've gone to SDCC enough, you're going to have your great stories ... I met Jonah Hill ... and your not great stories like this one and what happened to Sylent coming down that escalator or the story about the security guard who harassed you to no end about your lost badge.

Chalk it up as the life of going to SDCC huh?

Peace Sylent. Great Blog! Great Pics! Still hoping to get to San Jose but not looking good.

Well, good on ya for bringing the truth to the masses.

Man, I would've loved to hear about Morpheus duking it out with a security guard! You could've argued he was an agent from The Matrix!!

Yeah, the female Loki thing is a bit over my head. As for why you see no male Loki's running around... I could only assume that if there really was an authentic-looking guy in costume, he'd be torn to bits by the fangirls.

Really, the Pac-Man & co. are a recurring team? ...Well then, that's just some serious commitment.

Anyhow, great job, man. Always fun reading your blogs.

Thanks, dude! I figured that it was about time someone brought the darker side of the con to light. The media coverage makes it look like you'll get whatever you want just by having a badge; like everything about the con is wrapped in rainbows, unicorns and pixie dust. They never mention camping out or waiting in endless lines, or even worse, being in a line that gets cut off right in front of you. I forgot to add that part. I may go back and edit it.

I have a few more "Chickshaw" pics, but they were kind of blurry so I didn't use them. I still think #1 is the prettiest, although she looks 16. The last girl was kind of grouchy and didn't smile initially. I happened to catch her a couple of days later and she was more accomodating and in a better mood.

If I wasn't in a rush to get to the Mattel booth for the WWE tickets, I would have hashed it out with that security guy. The more I thought about it, the more pissed I became. I understand he has a job to do, but the way he went about it was douchey. I bet he hoped my gun was real and unchecked.

About cosplay, there are some people in costume that don't want to take pics with people. I've been denied on a few occassions and sometimes they have prick handlers with them that need to feel in control and won't ask them to stand still for photo-ops. That's annoying. Sometimes, people will give a heavy *sigh* when you ask them for a pic. Why the hell did you dress up if you don't want the attention? There was one lady walking around that I wanted to get a snapshot of- she was this really heavy-set woman with a nasty frown on her face dressed as Batgirl. I saw her several times and her expression never changed. LOL!

I didn't include the ten+ X-23 costumes I've seen or the female Loki's. I don't know how female Loki costumes have become so popular. It was odd that I didn't see any male Loki's walking around.

Those Pac-Man guys are there every year. I don't think they're being paid for that, besides, who would cut their check? Midway? Bally?

The "P" bit was a throwback to when I blogged regularly. I used to add that to the end of every blog and it became popular after a while so I kept doing it.

    *slow clap*

Very nice coverage, Sylent; it's par for the course at this point. I do like how you're contrasting the Con as to what we see on television with the realities of the convention. I admit, I never give much thought to how you have to plan out what you want to see, or even how to dress (God bless you for dressing up in a suit and leather in southern Cali, bro.)

#'s 2, 6, and 7 are all very sexy. And, yeah, at first I thought #1 was underage. Interesting how the hot one declines a photo... oh well, a man can dream.

Ah, the booth babes... the great American pastime.

    Fast 5 ref FTW.

It wouldn't be a huge, public event without people trying to ruin it. I can understand dick security guards (They're just doing their job, after all), but the woman with the stroller, the large rushers, and the religious fanatics should all just leave well enough alone (BTW, those nerds riffing on the Christians have earned my respect this day.)

Can I just say how much you've made me want to cosplay at some point? "With great power (and a great costume, of course) comes great responsibility." I agree. It's like a V.I.P. pass without having to shell-out for one. Still, comparing costumes with others seems like a blast, and I'm sure running into the same people time after time can be fun, too. Like watercooler talk between geeks.

And the REAL reason you cosplay... yeah, I want that, too.

The flood of the same costumes over and over again can be frustrating, I'm sure; I felt that way just scrolling through your picks. Mix it up, people! (mostly ladies ) Would it kill you to put some thought into your costume instead of going with biker Harley for the 20th time in a SEA of other biker Harleys?

No way that Pac-Man & Ghosts group weren't getting paid for that. There's no way...

Nice haul. The fact that it's this one that is smaller of the bunch makes me wonder how much you've got stored away...

And the fact that you all but dedicate the blog to your awesome wife was kinda nice, too.

lol, "P" for Peace, or was that just a happy accident?
