^Ok, I'll give you a pass.
I remember him getting attacked, but I can't recall now whether his head comes off or not. Like I say, theory 2 seems more likely to me.

His hand came flying back into the house. I remember that, I just forget if it was the left or right, which could possibly tie to the end scene with the melting face guy, depending on which hand he is using to pull off his skin.

This is like a full blown conspiracy now.

Lurking Fear (1994)

To compare this to that extremely dumbass film Bleeders, Lurking Fear is an Oscar winner (considering they both claim to be from H.P. Lovecraft's The Lurking Fear). As a film on its own, its just your standard B grade horror flick of the times. The monsters in question look like a bunch of badly crafted Crypt Keepers, whereas Bleeders had a ton of AWFUL Belial rip offs. But at least the story moved along at a nice pace and you get a few surprises here and there. The opening scene of the film was a bit terrifying.

Worth a watch.

Just watched Brandon Tenold's review of Project: MetalBeast.

I still like the film as a guilty pleasure, but holy shit, the fact that Helen Keller vs Nightwolves and FDR: American Badass (Barry Bostwick as FDR fighting Nazi Werewolves) are real films is amusing and depressing in equal measure.

^A friend and I watched half of In Search of Darkness II and Brandon Tenold and James Rolfe are interviewed several times. I'm also in the credits of the film ... along with a couple thousand other people who pre-paid for the documentary.

Watched it and I guess I’d agree but am a little on the fence. They should’ve just set it in a European town (filmed in Bucharest) because the architecture and cars and selling as Amerian nor some of the clunky dialogue. There’s a couple logic jumps I’d chalk up bad editing and. Why no one seems unable to leave even after two decades isn’t explained here nor what’s really going on with the Matenses.

On a side note, I got to meet two of the cast (for autographs at a con)—Ashley Laurence and Jeffrey Combs. On another, Google searching reminds me I’ve seen Bleeders too.

Don't watch those. You'll just hate yourself later.

Ok, ill take your word for it. Interestingly, I tried looking up the Helen Keller film and it's not listed anywhere in Wikipedia. I thought that kind of strange at first, but maybe they don't want to tarnish the image of such a reputable woman in history? Beats me.

However, I did watch 2 films last night. Project Metalbeast and Skylines (2020).
I liked Metalbeast quite a lot, cool effects, decent story, but the fact that it the whole movie takes place in 1 building was kind of boring. I was hoping said beast would rampage out into the public. No beuno.

On Skylines, I had seen the first 2 and had a particular liking for them, and unbeknownst to me, they had released a 3rd sequel in December of 2020. It is a very decent movie. The aliens are quite dreadful, and there is a lot of butchery and splatter throughout the whole film to make Leatherback jealous. My only issue was how to label this movie? Sci-fi or Horror? I chose the latter obviously, but it had a very strong Sci-fi framework.

Pretty much. It’s a great premise for a werewolf movie, but it doesn’t really live up to it. Brandon Tenold’s Youtube review (that Agent referred to) is good. He basically riffs cult movies, but he does point out strengths too including with this one (he also liked the premise and Bostwick’s character).

Any suggestions for a horror movie from the 1990s that contains a little schlock, some splatter, a pinch of fright, and a distinguished creature of some sort?

I'm in one of those moods.

Dunno if it's '90s, but I have been meaning to check out The First Power. Watch the trailer if you're unsure.

In that category, I think Mimic and Relic, but I assume you've seen those already. Ditto Demon Knight, Xtro, and Guyver.

I think I heard of that one before, don't remember if I saw it though. I'll read up on it on Wiki.

Out of that list, I haven't seen Xtro or Guyver. Likewise I'll check them out too.

Thanks, guys!

Oh, good. Xtro is not great but Guyver 1 and 2 have good effects.

Agreed. Relic was one of the few films that did the novel justice, me thinks.

I may be thinking too hard on this, but when you say Demon Knight, you are referring to the Tales from the Crypt movie, right?

Just watched The Guyver.
I'm not sure if my eyes were just raped or if I hated it so much I liked it? Ill have to sleep on it and re-assess.
You definitely got the schlock factor down, SC.
That was like a cross between Power Rangers and Toxic Avenger, and of course the end line "dynomite!" Delivered by the man himself Jimmy Walker was good.

The creatures didn't seem that threatening, kinda reminded me of a Satanic Sesame Street.

I also watched another movie earlier called "Bad Moon" starring Mariel Hemingway. It was (according to one list I read) the only notable werewolf movie of the 90's. It was by its very nature an extremely personal account of a brother and sister's family hell, and the second I saw the dog "Thor" I spent the next hour and 18 minutes saying "you better not kill that dog" over and over in my head. Fortunately, Thor survived, but got bloodied up by the wolf pretty bad, which leads me to think he might be afflicted? But then again, dogs are naturally born of wolves I believe, so maybe the genetics just crossed each other out. Oddly enough, at the very end, Mariel has this 5 second nightmare that Thor indeed had a transformation, but turned out fine.

One thing I noticed was that the score was sympathetic, often catering to the love of family and good times. Almost made me feel like I was watching a Hallmark after school special, which I didn't necessarily mind.

I'll recommend one from a bit farther back -- Don't Look Now, from 1973.

^A great flick, but not a creature feature like he's looking for.
