Not to knitpick, but technically Kara is older than Kal-El. If you'd read, she was launched from Krypton before Kal-El as to supervise and watch over him. She just got caught in the debris and her rocket was delayed in reaching Earth. She did not age in the time, remaining at her teen aged self, while on Earth Kal-El landed and hence grew up. So she is a teen, yet in the true chronology of things, remains older than Kal-El.

And if you know of Michael Turner's work, he's drawn plenty of Women..

Wonder Woman, Aspen, Red Sonja, as well as a host of TV Show inspired comic books from the likes of Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

Yet she DIDN'T AGE, which means in every way that matters she is YOUNGER than Kal-El. There is more to age than time elapsed since birth, especially in a universe that has time travel, stasis, and weird de-aging spells and such.
