I would agree that alot of the expanded universe material is lame. I remember reading that there was a creature that made the would take away the power of the Force from a Jedi.

Dark Empire trades has that. He comes back possessing a clone, turns Luke into Lord Skywalker, Boba Fett returns, and all kinds of other stuff.

I think that's in Zahn's books. There like slugs. Actually, it probably make even more sense since Phantom Menace, since it could just be a natural defense against another natural organism (metachlorians). Doesn't mean it's cool ... but it could make sense.

Actually, I didn't have a real problem with that. As Obi-Wan initially described it, the Force was an energy field. These creatures negated that field in their vicinity, making it impossible to use the Force near them. Yeah, they were a plot device, but a useful one, and they worked pretty well, IMHO. It was theorized (in the book, I think) that the planet they lived on had predators that used the Force in rudimentary fashion to track prey, so these creatures, being largely immobile, developed the ability to hide in this fashion.

Dude! Yoda and Obi-Wan were spirit-like entities by the end of ROTJ. Then there's the whole force thing. So, y'know.

It's about three trades worth of story. Dark Empire's I and II, completed with Empire's End (which was only a 2 or 3 issue story). Good reads.
