  • star wars underworld spoilers?

Remember that Star Wars TV that Rick McCallum was talking about last month? If not you can refresh yourself here. Back? Well we know its going to be set in the interim years between sloppy action pic Episode III and as close to cinema perfection as you can get Episode IV. So far so .... ok.
    .

Daniel tells us that one of the series' first episodes will involve a group of bandits acquiring the capability of time travel, and using it to travel back in time to stop Darth Vader from ever existing.

This is certainly in keeping with past indications we've heard about the show - that it would involve the 'darker' side of the Star Wars universe, criminal factions, Empire building, etc.

I like the idea. If it's true, I hope they can make it work.

Introducing time travel to the SW universe would be horrible.

Sounds awful. REALLY awful. I'm now more convinced than ever that this show should never see the light of day.

I doubt George Lucas would have involvement with the show beyond producer and some story ideas. But yeah, it sounds the same retread we've seen all the time.

Which is why there should never be a Star Wars tv show. Look at Star Trek, they just redid the same tired plots over and over again. There comes a point on a sci fi show where you just repeat yourself. This late in the game Star Wars isn't going to do anything Trek hasn't over a bajillion episodes. And Star Wars is too good for that.

Just let it end with the 6 movies and be done with it.

                      article on my statement

Are you ready to explore the seedier side of Star Wars?

In a new interview with Czech Position, George Lucas' producer, Rick McCallum, reveals some interesting tidbits about the potential live-action Star Wars TV series. The main thrust of the interview is that the show could potentially be shot in the Czech Republic, with McCallum saying, "This would be one of the primary places because of the talent."

But the more notable portion of the interview is when McCallum discusses what the TV series would be, saying, "Basically, it is like The Godfather; it's the Empire slowly building up its power base around the galaxy, what happens in Coruscant, which is the major capital, and it's [about] a group of underground bosses who live there and control drugs, prostitution."

McCallum's statements are the most we've heard so far about the crime perspective of the show, though Lucas has made references to series like The Sopranos and The Wire before when describing it. McCallum has previously been the one to give more specific details than Lucas, having revealed the only character we know for sure to expect to see in the series – Boba Fett. McCallum stressed to Czech Position that while the TV series would take place in-between Episode III and Episode IV, Luke Skywalker would not appear at all.

George Lucas talks to IGN about the
                      Star Wars Live-Action TV Series

Reiterating recent comments by Lucas about why the show is currently at a standstill, McCallum says, "The TV series is on hold, but that has nothing to do with the Czech Republic; it has to do with [the episodes being] so ambitious. We have 50 hours of third-draft scripts, but the problem we have is there is a lot of digital animation; we don't have the technology yet to be able to do them at a price that is safe for television. Since we would be financing them, it would be suicide for us to do this [now]. So we are going to wait three or four years."

McCallum gets a bit more pessimistic though, adding, "Network television and cable television as we know it are completely imploding, so we're not really sure that in five years' time we can release a dramatic one-hour episode because it is all reality TV now."
