I'm in the minority here when I say I think this idea blows.
IMO, Superman Returns was a great movie... that was about as dark as Superman needs to be. If they would just continue with the already established continuity and toss Brainiac at him, I think the fans would be happy.
I say change the cast, make Luthor the behind the scenes businessman. Have him create the Revenge Squad of Metallo, Parasite, and Bizarro and let the fists fly. Also, please have him and Lois actually flirting with each other. I'd love to see an eventual marriage on film And I want Lex as the President!
I agree I liked Superman Returns, but who knows a reboot might be good as well if they don't change the cast and confuse people.
rebooting the story w/o changing the cast is more liable to confuse the audience than anything else.
that being said, a reboot isnt even a a clear sign of success: look at the results from the latest Hulk -flick, and be the judge.
wat the WB-execs need to do is realize that a Superman movie for the modern crowd doesnt work if he's just saving ppl from danger in the classic sense; he needs a foe thats gonna make ppl call out his name, and really SHOW that handling that villain is really a job that only *he* can do.
this can be done, but they cant keep aiming to please the 60yos who're fans of the franchise; the way they did the #2 film is a good way to start, but Id use someone who's known in the comics like Mongul or Conduit upgraded w/some lost kryptonian armor/tech (Id save Darkseid for the third movie, as thats when he takes the fight to Apok rather than saving Metropolis *yet again*).

As long as Superman origins aren't the focus of the movie, I'll be happy. I just watched Returns for the first time and have to say the first 20minutes of the movie were so boring, and Kevin Spacey just doesn't do it for me. There's a better Lex out there...(Smallville dude is far better, imo)
and Hulk just doesn't make a good franchise.

I can always hope that we might actually get an established villain that can fight Superman for once, either Mongul, Grundy, Brainiac, Doomsday, or even Gog. Think maybe Lobo might work too, as long as it is someone who is not a Superman clone or a guy who owns a piece of Kryptonite.
But we have already had Zod, and an evil superman clone so Bizarro's out. And if Luthors kryptonite continent didn't work what could Metallo do?

I think you're forgetting they starting over...so, you don't have anyone but Superman at this point.
They aren't neccesarily going to start all over... I highly doubt we'll see an origin film... think reboot in the Incredible Hulk sense.
That mind set presents them with the ability to forgo the traditional "first" film, and go straight to the action packed sequel.
Do good. Be well. Make happy.

the thing alot of people seem to think is that Routh was superman, and should still be. I happen to agree. if the script was good i think he'd still do a damn good job.
