While the nineties had a lot of trash, it also gave us characters like Kon-El, Connor Hawke, Kyle Rayner, Impulse, Aztek, Major Bummer, Cameron Chase or the robot Hourman.
I agree...I happen to think DC is not doing anything terrible...unlike Marvel's special covers and dragging out the Spider Man clone saga on for months...back in the 1990s.

Hey, without the Clone Saga we wouldn't have the MC2 Verse
What's killed DC in my opinion is everyone coming back from the dead, chars like Hal Jordan and even Superman I can get but Golden Eagle? Jason Todd? Spoiler? WTF, they're still doing it now with bringing back Ice

Action Comics #1 ruined DC forever. C'mon, who would ever buy a comic featuring a guy named Superman? Then they only made it worse by introducing this other guy named Batman! Imagine what a disaster it would be if Hollywood every tried to make a film on either of these two bozos.
And then came The Flash, the Green Lantern, Dr. Fate, Hourman, Sandman, etc.
It was all over by then. DC was ruined forever.
On a serious note, I don't think anything CAN ruin DC forever because in the world of comics you can find a way to correct mistakes. You can bring back heroes, find ways to make your Golden Age and Silver Age heroes mesh, and then find a way to put all your characters in the same universe later on.
The only thing that upsets me is what they did to J'onn, but they can also find a way to bring him back down the line. Wasn't too keen on Hal as Parallax originally either but the whole story arc ended up being good and the retcon of Parallax as the yellow impurity makes the story even better - it now fits extremely well into the longterm arc of the character. We got Rayner out of it and I like Kyle pretty well. All the Earth Lanterns have something to like.
Can DC do wrong? Sure. But they also can fix it and most often do find ways to fix the bad ideas.
