Hi everyone! I'm a 29 year old male living in Chicago, IL. I'm here because of the movie. I heard it was terrible and didn't think much of going to see it. I didn't know anything about the comic book character other than that he's been around for quite some time. I'm not the biggest comic book fan, nor the biggest comic book movie fan, so the whole thing was under my radar.
Then randomly one day, I thought that it might be interesting to see what the fuss is about. The marketing blitz must have brainwashed me to even think to see it. I asked my buddy who was interested in the prospect, so we scouted out a 3D showing. I "knew" the movie was going to be terrible, but I had a gut feeling that I would give it the benefit of the doubt and end up liking it.
aaaand I was wrong!
I ended up being completely captivated and inspired by the film and the story of the Green Lantern. I must have seen it at the right time in my life, because the concept of fighting Fear with Willpower was oh so relevant in my life. I am pursuing a rather risky career in the arts - opting to follow my dreams and forgoing a safe bet. I struggle with this decision constantly, and feel very afraid and scared at times. It was awesome and inspirational to see this character struggle with being "chosen" and see him face his fear. I thought to myself, "Have I been given a gift with my life? Will I be able to handle the responsibility of living up to my talent and potential? Can I face my fears and follow my dreams? Am I a Green Lantern?"
So the film really picked me up and I wanted to learn more about the Green Lantern. My comic book friends gave me recommendations on where to start, and I am looking forward to picking up those titles from the library. I recently learned about the DC Reboot, and am really excited for that. I've never had a comic book subscription before (I have a small collection of comics from when I was younger) but now I'm excited to get GL #1 and start following the story anew. This recent obsession is now making want to pick up Batman and The Flash, but maybe I should just try one new thing at a time!
I don't know if I'll be in love with GL forever, or if this is a passing obsession, but I figured this message board looks cool and would be a good place for me to explore this new interest and make new friends!
