What if Donna wanted Kyle back?

How close are Kyle and Soranik? Are they really each other's true love? What would happen if Donna (or Jade, or Alex) came back into Kyle's life, signalling that she wanted him back? Would Kyle stay with Soranik or not?

Would he do the right thing? And what would that right thing be?

This is a completely fiction-related question and has nothing whatsoever to do with my personal Gwen Stacy reentering my life right now, thank you very much.

Honestly I think Kyle is only with Natu just to bring him some kind of happiness. Much like how Daredevil got with Mila during Bendis run on DD, he really didn't love her, but kept up the illusion of love in order to finally attain some type of happiness.

Okay, so. Why IS Kyle with Soranik Natu? Well, he felt a natural attraction to her (beautiful woman who works with him and tells him he's her true love? Why the hell not? She's also supporting him, giving him a place to live, and buying his art supplies. He has a surgeon sugar mama). Of course, you get the feeling that if Arisia or Iolande approached Kyle with the same thing, he would have also tried to get with them. That's just how Kyle works, he's admitted that he's in LOVE with the idea of being in love and he wants to try and grasp happiness whenever he can. He initially lied, because while he didn't love Natu, he was excited to get her. Even at the cost of lying. Even at the cost of not telling her about his past loves (and their deaths). What does that mean? That while he had a strong comrade bond with her, he didn't have real emotional intimacy with her. But he knew that as long as she was a guaranteed safe investment (and she was, because she was talking about how he was her TRUE LOVE), he knew he COULD love her since he already cared about her. It was more of a practical entrance into a relationship for Kyle based on safety and plan for happiness, rather than passion, common interests, honesty, etc.

But what's love got to do with it? Many cultures have the sort of view on love and relationships that Kyle rushed into, that the growing and loving should happen AFTER the relationship. Okay, so it's not the most honest thing to do, but it doesn't invalidate them.

Natu and Kyle might have not gotten together for the best of reasons, but just like arranged marriages, a natural closeness and love can develop from just staying together, depending on the mentality both involved have. (This is me being positive about a pairing I am super apathetic to at the least and loathe at the most, okay?)

Kyle has gone through a lot of emotional pain, from loss and love alike. I truly feel that, in a hypothetical situation where a girl he previously loved wanted him back, even if he would wonder "what if" and possibly be tempted, he'd not want to hurt Soranik like he had been hurt in the past. Kyle is impulsive when it comes to love, so he might be the type to make a mistake, but I don't think he'd leave Soranik.

He has a very different history with each girl, too.

With Jade, she was the longest-term relationship he had. He has a huge history with her, but because of that, it also feels more resolute. Kyle has shown that he's not "over" Jade 100%, but he's still 100% chosen to be with Natu. A big part of him not being over Jade is also because she still affects him, in the sense that he's still hurt over infidelity and how she cheated. It hit his insignificance and abandonment issues hard. Jade wanting him back...he'd be more apprehensive, even if he still has feelings. Fool me once, shame on you. Would you fool me twice? Shame on me, type of thing.

Donna wanting him back... is another can of worms. Donna has been there for Kyle through many things -- she was his major support when Alex died, and to her ability, was the only support he had when his mother died. Donna has always been someone Kyle could depend on, but Donna has never let herself depend on Kyle much after the divorce she went through. She pushed him away at her time of need, and since then, though they've had sexual tension and shown tenderness and care, there's been an awkwardness. If they got close enough again to be comfortable, I could see him having thoughts of "what if" since he views Donna as the "one who got away", but ...in the end I think he'd stick with Soranik, because Kyle's a compassionate (but stupid) person and would want to make sure not to put Natu through that sort of pain. Especially because he's the first person Natu has opened up to.

Donna has grown a ton as a person, and so has Kyle, since they were together. With the way they've both grown, I think they'd both be very compatible. But it wouldn't happen unless Kyle was single, or unless she showed she was willing to open up to Kyle and let him help her. Donna always likes helping people and being a mother to them, but doesn't let anyone help her. What recent interaction have these two had? Ion had them wanting to like...randomly bang in space, but then Kyle's mom died, and she had to help him out. What after that? Parallax threatening Donna was what inspired Kyle to first fight back. What else? Uhhh Countdown crap. Which was like all weird and written like an episode of Gossip Girl, but I guess when Donna tried to get Kyle to open up about his possession from Parallax, Kyle refused to open up to her. Which shows he's still butthurt toward her, and in GL 118, he did admit he resented her a bit for shutting him out of her life. Does the recent JLA interaction even count? Kyle barely interacted with Donna (though they were awkwardly not denying any of Jade's crazy jealousy aimed at them), but he also barely interacted with Jade -- someone that he supposedly was still in love with. So let's chalk all of that up to terrible rushed writing with absolutely no depth.

Alex...is a big guilt issue with him. If Alex came back, it would probably cause the biggest rift in his relationship, specifically because he would feel like he needed to protect her, and was obligated to be around her. Like with Donna, his relationship with Alex was cut very short in a tragic manner, with little to no real closure other than post-death talks at her grave and Mogo hallucinations. He wouldn't want to just leave a newly resurrected Alex to fend for herself after he was the reason she died.

Basically Kyle has way more complex and interesting relationships with these girls but they are never written to the potential they should be anymore, lulz.


I'd be personally rooting for him to get back with Donna or, if Alex was ever resurrected, Alex. Heck, I adore Jade, and even though I'm convinced that if she and Kyle gave it another shot, they'd fail for various reasons... I'd still love seeing that trainwreck. As long as it wasn't the ONLY plot in Kyle's life, like his romance is right now.

But in the end, I think the right thing would be to stay with Natu, unless it was Alex. Jade has a good support system and has already apologized, and Donna has handled having the world shit on her more than almost any DC female...she would be able to handle a rejection from Kyle.

Though I still think Donna and Kyle are the absolute most compatible (in personality, temperament, interests, and life experience), but they really don't have the circumstances ever in their favor. Kyle's more successful relationships have been with girls who have more stable lives than Donna does. And so much of life and what works out in it for you is about the stuff you can't control.

On another note, notice that not only did Kyle go for three photographers, but he also has now gone for three orphans who come from adopted families?

He definitely seeks out subconscious psychological verifiers.

Anyway, good luck with the Gwen Stacy situation. I personally am a Gwen fan, just as I'm more of a Donna/Kyle fan, but in the end I do think Kyle would be a dick if he just up and left Soranik after roping her into a relationship with dishonesty. If you remember in GL 118, Donna "re-entered" Kyle's life when he was with Jade, and he was practically ready to run off with her in the rain. It was Donna that had to stop it, because she knew it wasn't right, but I'd wager that you're not a pathological liar like Kyle is

I liked Kyle with Donna most of all. She put him with that middle generation of grown up sidekicks and of the superchicks he's been with she was also the most human.

I'd accept Jade or Donna back into the picture cause I hate Natu. Alex coming back though, that's too much.

very shortly, as I am so tired and missferris had said anything I'd have said on the matter already... I agree that Kyle would stay with Soranik mostly because he can't handle to be the one that cheats and get away (ultimately, Kyle is self-centered like that in love) BUT god if I'd want to see Soranik pushing him away if the circumstances of him clearly showing to be still more attached to one of his exes than to her arise...

Actually, the only way I can see them splitting up is Soranik dumping him, not the reverse, because Kyle is nowadays too much of a lonely and hurt individual to face another breakup and is, naturally, one of those people that never really gets rid of relationships.

It'd be a waste of effort if writers had Donna pursue Kyle. She's a Titans character and Kyle's a GL character and they belong in their separate social circles. The only reason they were together in the first place is that she was his "gateway girlfriend"; ie, Kyle's first superhero girlfriend that could help draw in readers from other camps.

In story reason? Donna would get nostalgic and come close to bringing up the subject with Kyle, but would see it was better to move on when she sees Kyle with Natu at whatever crossover event of the week brings them into the same comic. That, and she can't compete with Natu's great rack.

Yeah, you're right. Her perfectly spherical creepishly-pornarific-boobs cannot compare with Natu's perfectly spherical creepishly pornarific boobs boobs which, in turn, look like every other freakin' comic girl's boobs save for Power Girl's, which might be slightly bigger. Natu's are red, so I guess they have the advantage of looking like a babboon's ass, but they pretty much look like any other comic boobs. Your rack joke...it fails
