  • Is there realy nothing we can do with this kid?

The guy held a book for 10 years. Is there realy no more good Kyle stories to tell? I mean How about a filler issue since Hal's book never ships on time. A mini. A one shot. Don't get me wrong. I like Hal as the anchor man,but I could use some more Green Lantern, and frankly GLC ain't cutting it.

One idea I'd really like for an arc, post-Blackest Night, is one where Hal Jordan is mysteriously taken out of commission, and goes missing. And so Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, and maybe someone else set out looking for him. It would give Kyle and John some much-needed face time, and remind readers about what makes each character great in their own right.

      That would be excellent.

Though I'd also like to see a Hal Jordan story -- yes, a Hal Jordan story, not a Green Lantern story -- that reminds/educates readers what makes his character great in his own right. We haven't seen that yet in Vol. 4.

Agreed. As much as I'm loving this epic Sinestro Corps/Blackest Night saga, after it's done I would like to see a period of smaller, "done-in-one" stories, with more of a focus on character study. I mean, in the entire run of Green Lantern volume 4, I believe we've only had one truly standalone issue.

That being the Batman issue, which was phenomenal.

I know Geoff's got it in him. I'm all about Blackest Night putting Green Lantern on the map like nothing else, and making 2009 the Year of Green Lantern in the DCU... I'm behind that 100%... but afterward, it's well past time to chill out and do some character pieces, done-in-one bits, and smaller scaled arcs with villains that don't have rings.

My worst fear about "Blackest Night" is that it won't end properly, that it will just conclude with the same sort of big "To Be Continued in the Next Big Epic" coda that the SCW had... and then spend the next year or so afterward building up to that again.

Yeah, I've had similar worries. Like, that The Blackest Night will end with the Green Lantern Corps in disarray, or with Hal and co. as renegades while the Guardians have completed their shift into full-fledged antagonists, and we spend the next year working towards restoring the status quo, leading up to the next BIG EVENT.

However, Geoff Johns has said that he planned a trilogy of big events, with The Blackest Night being the third. Also, I have a feeling that The Blackest Night will attract a whole host of new readers to Green Lantern, even more than Sinestro Corps War did. So after Blackest Night could be the best time to end that saga conclusively, and start with a relative clean slate on new, quickly accessible stories.

Then you missed the interview last year (I think it was where he had just signed his latest DC contract for another however many years) where he indicated that saying such was short-sighted, that he -- half-jokingly -- now is planning a trilogy of trilogies... I'm being serious.

And no doubt that Dan Didio will ride the Geoff Johns bandwagon till he drops.

But back on topic, I think a Kyle Rayner 3 issue arc would be great! Maybe instead of solving the mystery of Hal Jordan, he could (off the top of my head), be attacked while minding his own business, then as he's being beaten senseless with little ring power, we get to a "Last Rites" issues for Kyle, like a look back at his most difficult times as a lantern and eventually overcoming the odds, and prevailing like a hero does. That's all I need, and I'd be perfectly fine if that was in or out of the GL/GLC books.

Though I'm still holding my breath for a John Stewart:Year One.

I`d love to see another Kyle issue. One that`s not a filler role in something like Countdown. The kid was GL for a decade and there's still plenty of stories that could be told. His relationship with Alan paves way for a good Alan/Kyle story ... I really liked those. With Barry's return Wally and him are now in the same boat. Ditto Conner Hawk. There's always that "Amazon" Guardian ... who's name I can't remember. She appeared int he Omega Men, but she could also pay Kyle a visit. Nero mightbe rotting in a sciencecell, but he can always make a comeback. There's a lot of yellow rings out there. I'd love to see his return as he was origionally portrayed and not watered down. And there's the Effigy Corps. The Controllers empowered more than one jerk in their failed experiment. Former Darkstar Jhon Stewart seems like a tailor-made matchup. And Lord Malvolio ... well, Kyle *is* wearing his ring, isn't he?

Even if there was a mini where he teamed up with Guy and they explored their roles as Honor Guards.

I mean there's a lot they could do just with his established history.

I like Kyle and Guy in GLC right now, and that's still got a lot of gas left in the tank. But I'd be all for a Kyle mini series or a few oneshots. How could I say no to MORE GL books? If it comes out...I'll buy it.

The inherrent problem with Kyle in the current GL franchise was what made him memorable during his time in the sun. Kyle was interesting as the one last GL, no Guardians, no Oa, no Corps, nothing for him to rely on. He was like the Greatest American Hero in that he had to do it on his own, was the underdog, and always in over his head. His character really needs everything else out of the way for his gimmick to work. But once he became Ion for the first time, Kyle put all that behind him. Even if the GLC was gone, he still couldn't go back to the inexperienced kid he once was. He's been trained, he's paid his dues, and he's as experienced as any other GL in the books.

So what do you do in a mini series with the guy as he is now that makes his hardcore fans happy?

Maybe he needs to make a deal with neron to save his dear old mum from being killed at the expance of everything so far?

That said, this is the first time he's really been in the Corps. He's kind of adjusted without thinking about it, but this is the first time he can really see things like the Book of OA, the Crypts, the Sands of OA (if they're even still relevant), the Hallas, and all the eaons of history he has easy access to.

I also liked how he was wide-eyed about things. One good moment was where he was looking at the Source Wall and was really impressed by it.

Another thing I like is how he's the only Earth GL the Guardians seem to respect. And how he even seems to respect and trust them back.

I guess I'm getting at some genuine character moments would be nice. Just a lot of things that seperate him from the other Earth GLs. When he was "special" we got that by seeing him learn the ropes. Now it's a bit hearder since he's learned them all, but it can still be done.

Dave is right that Kyle had a built-in time limit. The question always was, what do you do with him after he grows up? And they still don't have an answer. The only thing that surprises me is that he lasted as the rookie for as long as he did.

A mini isn't going to satisfy anyone. He needs an ongoing. A Hard Traveling Heroes ongoing with Connor. That's so obvious that it's almost a no-brainer, IMO.

As much as I love Hal,I would like to see a stand olne Kyle only Issue. Maybe he goes home and vistis Radu? What about his friends that he use to have. What about Terry? What about the Jazz guy?How about conversations with Alan that don't have to do with his dead daughter? Maybe he misses home? Maybe he puts in a bid for the sector, causing tension between him and Hal?

I have always hated Kyles villians, except one. I would like to see him come back.

I would also go for a new GL/GA With him and conner. What could be the worst that happens,it takes off and DC is forced to give us another book?

Yep. If it sells, fine. If it doesn't sell, well, at least they tried something. It would have to be a lot better done than the mini of a few years back though.
