I'd be MIGHTY surprised if we got a Director's Cut version. Maybe if they DO make a sequel they might release such a version around THAT time, but not before, IMHO. I kind of doubt they are inclined to put the money into releasing two versions of the film to DVD at this time (especially since one is likely to cut into the sales of the other), and I see ZERO chance that they would release ONLY a Director's Cut. That would be admitting that the original version wasn't worth releasing on DVD, and even if you think that's true, they aren't going to send that message.
I'm not even sure they would put deleted scenes on a release at this time, since usually when they put deleted scenes on, the assumption is that people watching them will be able to understand why they weren't included in the final film, whereas it sounds like a lot of people would look at deleted scenes and seriously wonder why they WEREN'T included.

Unless all the footage was already finished, I can't see them incorporating it into the movie, and I'd be surprised if the studio was willing to spend MORE money on creating the additional finished scenes needed for a Director's Cut at this point.
We'll see. I will happily admit my error if necessary. The MOST I expect to see at the time of the DVD release are some very rough, unfinished "deleted scenes" tossed in as extras.Last edited by Mister Ed; 06-23-2011, 05:40 PM.

What I see is a trend of releasing various "editions" that have the same exact MOVIE, but a bunch of cheap to produce "extras" tossed on a "bonus disc", most often only included with the more expensive Blu-Ray these days.

I note that a VAST majority of your examples are "Unrated" cuts, which are really a different animal, IMHO. There isn't really much additional cost involved, since they are most likely simply restoring finished scenes that were cut only for the purposes of attaining a lower MPAA rating, and they appeal to a different segment of the viewing audience, the type that wants to see more sex and/or violence. A GL "Director's Cut" would be appealing to the SAME audience that the original film had, and so would cut more heavily into the theatrical edition's sales.
But we shall see. If they actually release an edition that inserts new, finished scenes to mitigate what some saw as the flaws in the original, I'll be overjoyed to be wrong.
