You know what....I miss the power signature the Oan energy had back in the day...I used to love how the constructs were all green/white, no black to them.

the major problem i have with the symbiote retcon is how it would have altered the events of Zero Hour and Final Night...

if Parallax still had all the power from Zero Hour, when he basically took on the entire DCU and won, he should have easily had the power to take down the GL Corps...

ignoring the power levels for the minute, move on to Final Night...

Parallax is a symbiote, a parasite of sorts that needs a living host to survive... thats how i see it anyway.

if it had completely taken control of Hal, he wouldn't have come back during Final Night to do the right thing as a hero, he would be using the darkness to spread fear throughout humanity...

and on a seperate note again, the Symbiote wouldn't have killed its host, at the end of final night in the sun, as it's primary instinct would be survival and it owed no allegiance to earth as Hal did.

        my thoughts anyway

You mean in SCW or in Rebirth? Either way it doesn't really matter, Zero Hour Hallax had also absorbed the power of the Central Power Battery. Which was expelled into the sun in Final Night, and absorbed by Kyle in the original Ion storyline bacn in Green Lantern Vol 3. In either case Parallax would not be as powerful as his Zero Hour persona in either Rebirth or SCW.

Well... my arguement would be that Hal was in control by Final Night because of what Ganthet did to him in Parallax view... which is kinda what this whole thread is about. As for the living host thing? Its not really an organic parasite, it grafts onto the soul... you know unstable molecules handwave.

maybe... i don't know... this is where i clash with a lot of other Hal fans because i actually liked the fact that he had an emotional breakdown, that to me made the character feel a lot more human...

I don't think it "needs" a host... it just likes to have one to be able to screw with people. Don't forget... Parallax was just fine host-less inside the Central Power Battery for thousands of years.

i figured it did something in the battery, working as a parasite and feeding off the energy, thats how it influenced the corps with the yellow weakness

I agree with you, note in my posts above I speak of Hal as Parallax as being heavily influanced by Parallax not under Parallax's control. Hal didn't know about Parallax until Rebirth, he was surprised as everyone else. To Hal he did do those things, Parallax might have made him paranoid and delusional, but he was still the one acting on those paranoid delusions.

At leas that's my interpretation of the material.

When Kyle was taken by Parallax on the other hand Kyle knew about Parallax so influance wouldn't have worked, Parallax had to actually take control.

Is this where Hal fought Superman and beat him in like 5 panels?, because it so I might have to track these issues down.

Well, he beat Superman in one panel in Zero Hour #4. But here in the "Parallax View" two-parter, yes, he defeated Superman and pretty much the entire JLA over the course of a few pages.

I do have to admit given the nature of the character and the retcon... the name is pretty much perfect. Have the events changed or merely our perception of them?

I present for your approval... the last nine pages of Green Lantern #64 Vol 3, Parallax View part 2.

It is my belief, given the giant yellow space bug retcon that Hal didn't know at the time he was posessed (he seemed just as surprised as everyone else in rebirth). Similar to how Kyle didn't know about the giant green space whale Ion inside of him. Parallax manipulated and used Hal, twisted his thoughts and actions.

Kyle (who has a rather badass moment here consider Hal just kicked Superman's ass) and Ganthet get through Parallax's influance and wake Hal up a bit, then Ganthet says "Lets end this." Given the retcon we could say that he's talking to Parallax, not Hal. After Ganthet's absorbed he and Parallax are now doing battle leaving Hal in full control of his mind for the first time in a long time. He doesn't create another perfect world for himself in his head... he's remembering what he was, what he did, and he's mourning his own life, because he threw it all away.

I don't see anything in these pages that can't still work given the Giant Yellow Space Bug retcon.

Edit* And Ganthet should have kept the suit.
                              I totally agree.
I love retcons when they're well done, and the Parallax retcon was, to me, brilliant..

The Parallax retcon was terrible, imo... but everyone likely already knows my views on this.
Do good. Be well. Make happy.
