Yes. The most dubious retcon of his own retcon is the Parallax thing... we're explicitly told in Rebirth -- written by Johns -- (and reinforced in Recharge) that there's only ever a Yellow Weakness, rookie or not, if Parallax is currently contained in the Central Power Battery... now we're told that there's a Yellow Weakness regardless of where Parallax is.
Now let's not get carried away here. There was only one retcon. The original situation was that the original Green Man was dead, and the guy we had now was a new one. That wasn't a retcon, that's what was originally established. Now we have the current Green Man being the same as the original one. THAT is the retcon (and a stupid, uneccessary, annoying one that I think was a mistake that they chose after the fact to reinforce), but it is only a single one, not a retcon of a retcon. In fact, IIRC, it wasn't even Geoff's retcon. I think identifying the current Green Man as the same as the original happened in GLC, which Geoff doesn't write.

Yeah, that's just braindead. I mean, I know you aren't fond of the Parallax retcon in any case, but you gotta admit, one thing it DID do nicely was explain the previously unexplained lack of a yellow weakness in Kyle's ring, and it did it rather neatly, too IMHO. But not anymore, dangit! Now we are left wondering once again why Kyle NEVER had a yellow weakness, and why? Who knows, as I strongly suspect that the yellow weakness will STILL not play a major role in any storylines from now on...
Some of this stuff really DOES feel like retcons made just because he can, not because they add anything or serve any story purpose.

Oh, I agree. It was very clever and did work.

Exactly. Just retconned on a whim. It's like there's no real system in place for what's retconned... no real weighing of pros and cons, just lawless flying on the seat of pants. Which I can almost forgive... if it's consistent in and of itself. But when the guy doing all the retconning is retconning hiw own retcons without rhyme or reason... it gets to be a bit much.

See this is why I jumped off of the "GEOFF JOHNS IS THE BESTEST WRITER EVER!" (being said in a really lisp ridden fanboy tone) band wagon while the going got good. Another good example of Geoff retconning is read his run on JSA when Degaton was messing with the past and has his goons kill Cronos when he is a kid by making sure that the car that missed him does hit him. Now read the recent issue of Booster Gold and how Rip hunter says that the future can be altered but the past is set in stone. If that's the case then why in the hell would Rip be worried if some one found out who he was. I mean by those standards Rip doesn't need to be worried since the past can't be changed so no chance of getting killed at a early age. Sorry in advanced for those that think he is a good writer but IMHO Geoff went from a pretty decent writer to a hack writer. Looking forward to the day he is off of GL.
SPOILERS IN POST BELOW (new here, not sure if I need this in a topic that already clearly warns against spoilers)
My $.02
I thought the issue was good, but not great. The tease of Scarecrow getting a ring was a nice and it that gave Hal and John a reason for being on Oa for the events of this issue but it could have been done in two pages rather than five.
It also seems to me that perhaps the scarred guardian has been infected or corrupted by her contact with the Anti-Monitor.
In the end the issue seemed to me to be 3/4 of an issue, with 1/4 of the events being filler, like the needless Scarecrow pages and cosmic surgery being shown when we really didn't need to see the details, and the remainder being important plot progression, like the scarred Guardian sending Ash after the corpse and the actual implementation of the Alpha Lanterns.
Also, like someone mentioned the lack of consistency in Graf's appearance was annoying.
In regards to spoilers warnings - if the thread has *spoilers* in the title then it is expected to have spoilers in the thread - however most of us still do spoiler warnings either with black text or with a big space like you did, so you don't have to but it is nice to.
I feel so-so on this issue. Definately a lot of seeds being planted for the future, do we have to wait until '09? It's going to kill me.
One of the smartest choices John Stewart made was declining, then the Guardians tell him they are VERY disappointed in him. WTF? He didn't give up his soul and become their zombie/slave/manhunter/soldier, so they're disappointed? Kind of ticked me off.
Didn't Greenman betray Stel in the Sinestro war? (I can't look it up, my cousin borrowed the whole run) Even if he was being manipulated, how does that qualify him to become an Alpha Lantern?
They're on Oa, where were Kyle and Guy? They were at one time the MOST Honored Lanterns.
I can see that many of us are still trying to come down from the sugary-caffeinated nitrogen-charged octane explosion that was the Sinestro Corps War. Gonna be hard to break the routine for some I see and come back to the old monthly la-la that was Green Lantern

You know, you could be right. After all the last few month of GL have been pretty high octane, but for now it still feels like a good portion of this issue was filler.
